Prior to the bout, ‘Taker had won 21 matches at the big dance without ever being defeated. That all changed on April 6th, 2014 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans.
While Lesnar had been booked as posing a serious threat to the Deadman, most fans believed that the streak would never be broken and would live on as a legendary piece of pro wrestling history.
That’s what made the outcome of this match all the more shocking. Lesnar legitimately injured ‘Taker during the contest and this had the effect of humanising the Deadman for the first time in his career.
The speed and raw power of the younger man were far too much to contend with for Undertaker. When Lesnar finally pinned the legendary veteran, the crowd greeted the outcome with an eerie silence. Shock had overcome all those in attendance as Lesnar had taken the one title that nobody else would be able to claim – he had become the first man to defeat The Undertaker at WrestleMania.
