The Miz Takes Daniel Bryan to Hollywood

For weeks, Daniel Bryan has been begging for a SummerSlam match against The Miz. This very personal rivalry goes back to NXT almost a decade ago — not Full Sail wrestling show NXT, but game show garbage NXT. As is well documented, The Miz was Bryan’s “pro,” and it was not a good fit.

Fast forward to 2016, when Bryan became SmackDown General Manager, and The Miz ended up on the Blue Show. The rivalry was reborn, though nothing could be done until Bryan was medically cleared to compete. As if sensing that fans wanted something that couldn’t happen, Miz was sent to Raw in the 2017 Superstar Shake-Up, separating him from Bryan and setting him up for some of the best work of his career.

But in 2018, Bryan returned to the ring, Miz went back to SmackDown, and now it’s like there was never any break. Bryan wants to get his hands on Miz, and the A-Lister is excelling at avoiding it. The Miz refuses to face Bryan, thinking it’s beneath him, and instead has promised to announce his SummerSlam plans on SmackDown.

Would anyone really be surprised if this is just another ruse? Two weeks ago, a fake baby led to Bryan’s downfall. Last week, Bryan was serenaded by a chorus of crying babies. This week, I wouldn’t be surprised if Miz makes it seem like he’s dodging a fight again, only to launch a sneak attack and make the match official.

These two must face off in a singles match, and SummerSlam is a great place for it. It could be a show stealer with how good both guys are, and how much drama is attached to the match. So expect the Miz to do something to give himself an advantage heading into it.
