Brock Lesnar Helps Keep Kayfabe Alive

Brock Lesnar is the most polarizing man in WWE right now, and he helps achieve this notoriety by keeping kayfabe alive.

On WWE television we are often told by Michael Cole that Roman Reigns is the most polarizing figure in sports entertainment. There is so much validity to that. However, let’s be honest, it’s only emphasized because John Cena started that funky trend. Cena started the trend of an alpha babyface that refuses to fully turn heel for anything.

The company sees Reigns in the same light as John Cena now. More importantly, it is a safe and profitable way to market Reigns that way because he will never get 100% cheers. There will always be vocal haters this era ( recently reactions have been real positive). Fans know too much and have a mind of their own. Booing the good guy and cheering the bad guy is the norm.

Yet, when digging a bit deeper, the real most polarizing figure is Brock Lesnar. He is  legitimately controversial in how he approaches wrestling as a business. The beast is already a mainstream crossover athlete. Additionally,  Lesnar keeps his circle tight.

You will not catch him on any podcasts or meet and greet. Lesnar does not interact on social media. This may seem like he does not care from the fans. Nonetheless it gives him an extra aura of exclusivity. He keeps everyone guessing what is a work, and what is not. The leverage he manufactures with UFC and WWE is what makes Brock a real mercenary.

On Raw last Monday, Brock Lesnar had everyone’s disbelief suspended. People did not like that he attacked the best mouthpiece, Paul Heyman. An even larger portion of the audience despises him for attacking beloved Kurt Angle. Still, the 18-35 year old men love to see the former UFC Champ terrorize everyone. Everyone feels a type of way about Lesnar.

Brock Lesnar makes his goals clear and knows what he wants. He wants to fight in the biggest marquee match-up. Also, he wants to make the most money he can while doing it. Fans bash him for it but you can’t knock the guy.

According to WrestlingInc, WWE legend Chris Jericho appeared on  The Jim Ross Report to discuss Lesnar. Jericho stated “I think a lot of people have animosity towards [Lesnar] because of that [favorable deal], but I don’t.” Jericho admitted, I admire the guy”.

Any Legend would love more money for less dates. That type of schedule preserves the body of older talents. It keeps the character fresh too. Whether people admit it or not, it gives time to miss a performer. Of course it would be nice to see the Universal Champion at least once a month(PPV’s). That would make the beast incarnate just like everyone else. Which is what the company does not want.
