WWE Raw Power Rankings: Dean Ambrose Evens the Odds for Seth Rollins
By Bryan Heaton
2. Dean Ambrose (last week: not ranked)
1. Seth Rollins (last week: 4)
It sure took long enough, but Dean Ambrose finally made his return to WWE Raw to help out his buddy Seth Rollins. It was pretty obvious all night that Ambrose would return, since Rollins was “dealing with travel issues” and Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre spent the whole evening gloating about Rollins having to forfeit his SummerSlam title match.

But obvious or not, it’s great to have Ambrose back in the fold. He’s one of the most popular superstars in all of WWE, as evidenced by the crowd reaction when it became clear he was about to hit the stage. And with his slightly modified look — shorter hair, bigger muscles — the Lunatic Fringe is out to prove he’s a changed man, more ruthless and vicious.
See, the old Ambrose would have been a little chattier in a situation like this. He would have grabbed a mic, said something witty, and then thrown the mic at his target before starting to fight. But the new, improved actual literal lunatic? No pleasantries, just punches.
It’s enough to make you think that maybe, just maybe, Ambrose isn’t really on Rollins’s side here. I don’t think he’s siding with Ziggler, or McIntyre, or anyone for that matter. But what if Ambrose goes rogue, and has no allegiance to anyone. WWE Raw is a little babyface heavy at the moment — outside of Brock Lesnar and maybe Kevin Owens, freaking Baron Corbin is as much a top heel as Ziggler or McIntyre.
Maybe Dean-O should be a maniacal loner who wreaks havoc on anyone who wrongs him, and for no good reason. It would be a refreshing change of pace.
