Charlotte & AJ Styles vs Jimmy Uso & Naomi

AJ and Jimmy start the match with a sequence that ends in traded armdrags. They each go for kicks, but it’s a stalemate as they each catch the other’s foot. They argue about who should put down who’s foot first before agreeing to let go at the same time. They shake hands and turn to make tags, but the shake doesn’t break and they argue again about who’s holding who. Classic.

There’s tags to Charlotte and Naomi, and they go back and forth. Naomi lands a stiff kick and twerks in Charlotte’s face, who shakes it off, lands a kick of her own, and twerks back. Also classic. Naomi’s shook and retreats to her corner to gather herself with her husband. They lock back up, and Naomi goes for a pair of fancy pinning predicaments.

Then, they find themselves in the same “double foot catch” scenario that AJ and Jimmy were just in. They come to the same agreement their partners came to, before Naomi finally starts gaining some momentum.

Charlotte finds herself on the outside, and Naomi goes for a flying crossbody, but AJ is there and catches her. Jimmy’s upset and pulls Naomi away yelling “get your hands off my wife”. AJ, Naomi, and Jimmy are all arguing, and Charlotte takes the chance to take out both members of Day One Glow with a beautiful crossbody of her own. Villainesque “too sweet, woo, woo” chants from the crowd are too perfect. Well done, Tulsa.

The women are back in the ring. Naomi fights back, but misses the split -egged moonsault. Charlotte goes up and goes for her own moonsault, which connects. Hot tag to Jimmy, but AJ leaps off of Charlotte’s back and hits a flying clothesline. Ushiguroshi from Styles. Samoan drop from Uso, and they’re both down in the middle of the ring. Naomi tags in and hits a Jimmy-assisted rana on Styles.

Charlotte’s in and puts the figure four on Jimmy, but Naomi breaks it up with a splash. Uso goes for the super kick on Styles, but it misses, and AJ sends him out of the ring. Rear view to Styles, but Naomi turns into a big boot from Charlotte, and the Figure Eight gets the submission victory for Phenomenal Flair. Awesome finishing sequence.

Phenomenal Flair def Day One Glow

Wow. This was so good. It had all the dumb fun you want and expect on Facebook Live, but it also featured some legitimately fantastic action. As you’d expect, Naomi and Jimmy have excellent chemistry, and AJ and Charlotte, who are two of the best wrestlers in the world on their own, showcased a great connection as well. Either team would be an excellent choice to win season two of the MMC. I can’t wait to see more of AJ and Charlotte, and Naomi and Jimmy are always great together.

Rating: ****

In conclusion, this was an excellent way to kick off WWE’s second Mixed Match Challenge. Both matches were extremely entertaining and featured a handful of truly memorable moments.

It’s evident that the wrestlers have more freedom to let loose and be creative in this type of environment, and it’s such a joy to watch. I’d love to see more mixed-tag action like this on Raw and/or Smackdown, but for now I’ll be happily tuning into Facebook Live on Tuesday nights for a weekly dose of simple, lighthearted, pro-wrestling fun.
