Cody starts off heeling it up, not paying much attention to Juice. The Champ is frustrated with Cody’s attitude as they lock up. The Nightmare wins the first exchange by playing coy and outsmarting his opponent, but Juice fights back with an overhead belly to belly on the outside. He quickly looks to continue his momentum, but Brandi distracts and Cody takes control once again. Springboard elbow drop misses, but Brandi makes up for her husband’s mistake once again.
CrossRhodes attempt, but Juice counters and goes for Pulp Friction. Cody escapes and gets a near fall off of a back slide. Juice kicks out and hits the leg lariat. Cannonball. Powerbomb attempt, but Cody counters and distracts Red Shoes as Brandi rakes the eyes. Disaster kick, but Juice ducks and answers with a top rope crossbody. Pulp Friction countered again, as Cody slips out and locks in the Figure Four. Juice makes the ropes, but more heel shenanigans keeps his opponent ahead.
Eventually Juice counters multiple moves and successfully hits his finisher, but Brandi quickly pulls Cody out of harm’s way. Juice goes to drag his opponent back into the ring, and the Crossrhodes connects out of nowhere. They make the twenty count, and immediately get to trading strikes in the middle of the ring. Juice looks for the left hand of god, but Cody pokes the eyes and nails him with a superkick. Din’s Fire! KICK OUT! Cody goes top rope, but Juice chases him and hits the big left hand. Superplex, but Cody locks in the small package for the three count.
This was a classic Cody match: slow, solid, well thought out in ring action, stellar character work, lots of Brandi interference, and a satisfying conclusion. Take that formula, add in a bit of Juice Robinson flare, and you’ve got a winner. I have to admit, as a big Juice fan, I was a bit disappointed with the result, but I totally understand the reasoning behind it. It’ll be fun for Cody to run with the belt for a while, and Juice is too good to fade into obscurity, so all is well.
