Charlotte & AJ Styles vs Carmella & R-Truth

Before the match, R-Truth tries to use the fact that AJ forgot to hold the ropes open for Charlotte to turn the crowd against him and, hilariously, it actually kind of works. Dueling “Woo” and “What’s up?” chants as Truth and Styles start off. They kind of wrestle for a second, then they decide to have a dance break because that’s just how it goes in the Mixed Match Challenge. AJ looks like an absolute goof and Charlotte and Carmella join in. Everyone does the splits, but AJ hurts himself and Carmella takes advantage with head scissors on the Phenomenal One out of nowhere.

Charlotte confronts Carmella so she runs away. Eventually Flair catches her and goes for the figure eight. Mella counters and escapes again, but a dropkick through the ropes stops her. They’re back in the ring and Carmella locks in the criminally underused Code of Silence. Charlotte escapes and tags to Styles and Truth are made. Ushiguroshi, but Carmella makes the save and distracts as Truth connects with the Axe Kick. Superkick to Charlotte and Truth goes for a leverage pin. AJ bridges out and rolls up Truth for the 1 2 3.

Phenomenal Flair def Fabulous Truth 🙁

More from WWE

This was the exact opposite of what came before it- wonky, zany, and not at all serious. The only straight-up wrestling came in a short-lived back and forth exchange between Charlotte and Carmella more than halfway into the match.

Phenomenal Flair put on a fantastic, fairly complex match against Day One Glow in episode one, and I would’ve liked to see a similar performance here in their second outing, but oh well… I was entertained, and that’s what really matters. The match structure was spot on as it made it seem like Fabulous Truth had a legitimate chance to pull off a massive upset over two of WWE’s top stars. Also, I enjoyed seeing Charlotte and AJ, who are usually stone cold serious on Smackdown, let loose and do some comedy stuff. Plus, Carmella and Truth will never stop being the best thing ever.

In conclusion, I had fun watching this episode of Mixed Match Challenge Season 2. It flowed well overall and felt much more balanced than episodes 2 and 3. Monster Eclipse vs B’N’B delivered some good ol’ rasslin, then Phenomenal Flair and Fabulous Truth brought dance breaks and more playful in ring action.
