The Dark Horses:

Taiji Ishimori & Robbie Eagles

More from NJPW

Taiji Ishimori is still new and fresh, and it feels like he deserves more immediate success in the junior division, however, his team does feel a bit too thrown together at the last second to be considered a favorite to win this thing. That’s not a knock on Robbie Eagles. From what I’ve seen of him, the Sniper of the Skies seems fantastic. It’s just hard for me to imagine him showing up in New Japan all of a sudden and immediately winning a tournament alongside someone he’s never tagged with.

With that being said, there is a chance. Ishimori and Eagles coming out nowhere to win this would add a ton of credibility to the BC OGs, and I could see NJPW going with them for that reason alone. If that doesn’t happen (and it probably won’t), though, look for the new Bone Soldier to pin KUSHIDA and possibly step up as his challenger for Wrestle Kingdom.

Chance to win: 10% / Prediction: 3-4 (wins: Taguchi/ACH, Despy/Maru, Time Splitters 2.0)

My Dads (Jyushin Thunder Liger & Tiger Mask)

My dad and my other dad had a title match at King of Pro Wrestling, but the champs cheated their way to a victory. For this reason, I could see Liger and Tiger Mask heroically fighting their way through the Tag League to earn another shot at beating those dirty villainous heels. It’s not all that likely, as these two legends really haven’t been given much of a spotlight for years, but who knows? Fans would certainly love it.

Chance to win: 5% / Prediction: 2-5 (wins: BC and Taguchi/ACH)
