Tommaso Ciampa (c) vs. Velveteen Dream- NXT Championship

Tabbing the Velveteen Dream as a future superstar feels like too low of a ceiling for him. For one thing, WWE has watered down the significance of that term by using it for all of their wrestlers — even if the reasoning is understandable. Additionally, it ignores the fact that Dream is a star now. Not tomorrow. Not in a month. Not in a year. RIGHT NOW!

The NXT creative team finally gave in and allowed the fans that were already cheering the Washington D.C. native to fully embrace him as a babyface, and it has produced a fairly hot program with NXT Champion

Ciampa has managed to mostly avoid the ironic cheers that almost every heel succumbs to eventually, as the majority of the NXT faithful still hate his guts. Even though he has moved on from Gargano, Ciampa is still arguably the best heel in pro wrestling today.

This should be a good NXT Title match, with Dream selling for the obstreperous (thanks Mauro Ranallo) NXT Champion. As for who wins, the NXT writers could go with either man considering the momentum each has built. However, Ciampa seems to need the title more — especially if Black gets a title shot at one of the next two TakeOvers — so I’ll take him to retain. Dream is probably set for a call-up sooner rather than later, so all he needs here is a good showing.

Prediction: Tommaso Ciampa pins Velveteen Dream, retains NXT Title
