NJPW & ROH G1 Supercard: Preview and Predictions
ROH Heavyweight Championship Three-Way Ladder Match: Jay Lethal vs. Matt Taven vs. Marty Scurll
Jay Lethal and Matt Taven wrestled to an exhausting 60-minute draw at the ROH 17th Anniversary show for the Ring Of Honor Heavyweight Title. Both men knew that after the dust had settled, they would be featured in a rematch at some point down the line. At G1 Supercard, you will see these two men will be involved in a ladder match with ‘The Villain’ Marty Scurll to determine the heavyweight champion of the promotion.
Jay Lethal is a two-time ROH Champion, a legend in the promotion and a man that is no stranger to massive matches. Having held the title for nine months, Lethal has turned back unsuccessful challenges by Dalton Castle, Cody, Kenny King, and Will Ospreay among many other competitors. He is the man who offered up this ladder match and triple threat opportunity to his 2 deserving challengers.
Taven has staked his claim as ‘The Real ROH Champion,’ returning from injury and awarding himself a ‘Real World Championship Belt.’ He is not shy in thinking just how great he is and now he will have an opportunity to stake claim as the man to carry the Ring of Honor flag for the near and foreseeable future.

The big question mark and wild card of this match is Marty Scrull. He has been near the top of the Ring of Honor ranks for quite some time and has formed ‘Villain Enterprises’ with Brody King and PCO. While his former ‘Bullet Club’ and ‘Elite’ members Cody, The Young Bucks, and Adam Page left to start AEW, Scurll still had until April of 2019 before his contract was reportedly up. Scurll has been featured in the company over the last 3 months, which could mean he is remaining with Ring of Honor for a while longer.
Ladder matches in Madison Square Garden have a history of being prominently featured. Shawn Michaels defeated Razor Ramon at WrestleMania 10 in the premiere ladder match for the WWE and Triple H defeated The Rock at SummerSlam in 1998. Different promotions, same expected carnage. This match will be brutal, ladders and other weapons will be in play.
This contest could feature another title change at G1 Supercard. Both aforementioned ladder matches featured new champions at the end of the night. If the previously mentioned rumors are indeed true, we will see more history made on this night. A Villain will usher in a new era of Ring of Honor Wrestling.
Winner: Marty Scurll
