WWE: Predictions for the SummerSlam card so far
By Bassam Kaado
Raw Women’s Championship match: Becky Lynch (c) vs. Natalya
When first announced, this matched seemed like nothing more than just a random match-up, but the promo work leading up to this has made it more entertaining. I feel that WWE is in a weird spot creatively with Becky Lynch: she’s coming off a bit heelish in this rivalry and her reign may be souring on the Universe. Natalya will get the big pop, but she won’t get the win.
Winner: Becky Lynch
United States Championship match: AJ Styles (c) vs. Ricochet – This rematch will be a great match to watch based off the talent of the two wrestlers. The build-up had a few hiccups due to Ricochet’s elbow injury, but it should still be a fun one for the viewers at home and in the arena. Having Styles lose his title so soon after a loss will take away from the momentum of the O.C. Potential candidate for Match of the Night.
Winner: AJ Styles
WWE Championship match: Kofi Kingston (c) vs. Randy Orton – This prediction will be my most controversial one, but I think Kofi’s reign will come to an end. Kofi has faced a lot of opponents, and a win against Randy Orton would be a nice closure to their former rivalry a while back.
Yet, something makes me a bit hesitant to side with the reigning Champ. Randy Orton’s last high profile match was against Triple H and Orton beat The King of Kings. Seeing Triple H losing a match is a rare sight to see nowadays, so having him lose to Orton must be for something. If Randy wins, it gives a heel the championship and can set up for the eventual win for Kevin Owens.
Winner: Randy Orton
Universal Championship match: Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Seth Rollins – Dude, I don’t even care about this match. Babyface Rollins has been a bust. He is uninspiring and consistently shoots himself in the foot time and time again, inside and outside the ring. When he beat Lesnar at Mania, everyone was excited to have the title be back on a full-time competitor, but I find myself kind of rooting for Lesnar. And that is a major problem.
Plus, with the big Smackdown move coming, I think they pull the trigger and have Rollins lose to the beast. Maybe Riddle will dethrone the Conqueror, bro.
Winner: Brock Lesnar
