2. Minoru Suzuki has a history of success in the United Kingdom

In an interesting twist of fate, Minoru Suzuki almost has a form of home-field advantage as NJPW heads to London’s Copper Box for Royal Quest. In early 2018, he went to Revolution Pro Wrestling and teamed with fellow Suzuki-Gun member Zack Sabre Jr. to take on RevPro Undisputed British Tag Team Champions Trent Seven and Tyler Bate, otherwise known as Moustache Mountain.

With their victory at RevPro High Stakes 2018, Suzuki and Sabre Jr. continued to hold those titles for 475 straight days, finally losing them in May of 2019 to Aussie Open (Kyle Fletcher and Mark Davis). It was as dominant a reign as RevPro had seen for years, as Zack Sabre Jr. had two other reigns last even longer, back in 2009 and 2010 with Marty Scurll as his partner.

Minoru Suzuki finally brought that title back to Zack Sabre Jr., and his success continued in July of 2018. At NJPW Strong Style Evolved UK, Minoru Suzuki defeated Tomohiro Ishii after a 20-minute war to capture the British Heavyweight Championship. He held the title for 105 days before losing it back to Ishii at RevPro/NJPW Global Wars UK 2018.

3. Wrestle Kingdom 14 can have their first triple threat main event

Perhaps the most interesting, although admittedly least likely, reason that Minoru Suzuki should defeat Kazuchika Okada for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship is the potential it could have for Wrestle Kingdom 14’s monumental main event.

While this is only the 14th edition of Wrestle Kingdom, NJPW’s traditional January 4 Tokyo Dome event has existed under various names since January 4, 1992. Of the previous 28 events, none of them has seen a triple threat match in the main event. Aside from the main event tag team match Wrestle Kingdom 1, every other event has seen a one-on-one contest as the main event.

With his victory in the G1 Climax, Kota Ibushi looks to be on a collision course with Kazuchika Okada for Wrestle Kingdom 14. The most interesting potential wrench in that mix would be Minoru Suzuki leaving NJPW Royal Quest as the IWGP Heavyweight Champion.

It would put Okada back in the hunt on the road to Wrestle Kingdom 14 while Kota Ibushi continues to remind us of his claim to that title match. There may be no bigger potential main event for Wrestle Kingdom 14 than Minoru Suzuki defending the IWGP Heavyweight Championship against Kota Ibushi and Kazuchika Okada in a triple threat match.
