Brian Kendrick

Maybe not the kind of opponent you’d expect for Drew Gulak, but one that could really give us an interesting rivalry in the short or long term. Next month, the 40-year-old former WWE Cruiserweight Champion will have 20 years of in-ring experience, something that makes even this aging veteran a constant threat to anyone in his sights.

More from WWE

We saw a glimpse of that veteran ruthlessness once again this week when Brian Kendrick unleashed on both Jack Gallagher and Akira Tozawa with a kendo stick. Kendrick has been aligned with Tozawa in some manner for nearly a year on 205 Live, but that was all thrown away as we saw him embrace the “take no prisoners” attitude that once made him a champion.

It was three years ago at Hell in a Cell 2016 where Brian Kendrick defeated then-champion TJ Perkins. His reign lasted just under a month, as he went on to lose the belt to Rich Swann on the inaugural episode of 205 Live.

The Brian Kendrick has been itching to get back to that spot ever since, and this week’s attack on Tozawa and Gallagher seems to indicate a desperation to reclaim his place at the top. Whether he’s an unhinged veteran trying to bring down Gulak and Nese or a threat to the “rule of law” established by the champion, this could be one hell of a feud.

Oney Lorcan

The third, final, and most likely option to challenge Drew Gulak for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship at WWE Hell in a Cell is none other than Oney Lorcan. While Lorcan has faced Gulak before, there’s clearly unfinished business between them.

Two weeks ago, we saw Tony Nese turn heel once again by viciously attacking Lorcan backstage and aligning himself with Gulak. The issues between Lorcan and Nese saw another chapter unfold this week on 205 Live, but it didn’t actually solve anything.

In reality, the clash only solidified how unfinished things are between Lorcan, Nese, and Gulak. After the Cruiserweight Champion reached in from the outside and snagged the ankle of Lorcan, it provided just enough of a distraction for Tony Nese to roll him up and grab a handful of tights to secure a sudden victory.

Despite coming up short in previous attempts, Lorcan remains one of the most over members of the 205 Live roster. His Twitter account alone is championship material, and every week on 205 Live we see Lorcan continue to showcase his improvement in the ring and on the mic.

The Gulak Era has been something truly special, and Drew Gulak may be one of the most technically gifted WWE Cruiserweight Champions we’ll ever see, but WWE Hell in a Cell may finally be Oney Lorcan’s moment.
