WWE: 3 reasons why Rhea Ripley should win the NXT Women’s Title
Strike while the iron is hot
Red hot is an understatement for how Ripley’s 2019 has gone. Ripley kicked off the year – granted not for long – as NXT UK Women’s Champion before being unseated by Toni Storm at TakeOver: Blackpool.
Ripley followed up with a strong debut in the 2019 Women’s Royal Rumble, entering at #24 and picking up three eliminations before being eliminated herself by Bayley.
Since confronting Baszler, Ripley’s momentum has really picked up. She put away the likes of Bianca Belair en route to title contention. The Aussie went toe-to-toe with undoubtedly the most popular performer WWE has right now in Becky Lynch and defeated Charlotte and Sasha Banks in Triple Threat action just two days later.
Ripley emerged as the undisputed star of Survivor Series weekend with her performances in the aforementioned WarGames as well as the Women’s Survivor Series elimination match as part of Team NXT, both winning efforts.
During a time where NXT is trying to prove itself as a legit third brand, Ripley’s increased popularity has helped to shed the development tag it has had for so many years.
Considering the next TakeOver special isn’t until February, it’s hard to imagine – although not impossible – that Ripley’s crowning moment would be delayed another two months.
