AEW’s top five matches of 2019
4. The Young Bucks vs The Lucha Bros (All Out – Aug. 31)
For a promotion that prides themselves on their tag division, AEW has certainly been able to provide us with some quality tag matches in 2019. Case in point, this is the second tag-team match on this list.
Considering it features two of the best teams in the world, this match did not disappoint.
These four individuals would be able to produce fireworks in any setting, even without a crowd to cheer them on. In this case, they had the crowd, AAA Tag Titles on the line, and a bunch of ladders around the ring.
That’s right, four of the most daring individuals in professional wrestling agreed to face-off in an Escalera de la Muerte Match. In case you weren’t able to watch it live or catch the replay, I can confirm there definitely were fireworks; the loud kind.
Having said that, please go watch this match immediately if you haven’t done so already.
3. Jon Moxley vs Kenny Omega (Full Gear – November 9th)
Similar to the aforementioned Esclara de la Muerte match, Kenny Omega and Jon Moxley’s Unsanctioned Match at ‘Full Gear’ last November was barbwire-wrapped in hype and deep fried in thumbtacks.
Booking these two absolute badasses in a Lights Out Match created one of the most gruesome hardcore fights featured in a mainstream main event in the last twenty years.
Whether it was Omega taking a ‘Paradigm Shift’ straight on a piece of hardwood or both men crashing down on a bed of barbwire, The Cleaner and the former Lunatic Fringe went absolutely ballistic on each other and left professional wrestling fans divided in the process.
What started with a surprise debut and attack on Omega at ‘Double or Nothing’ in May had a satisfying finale in November which almost ended with both men unable to walk out of the Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore.
