During a recent episode of the After the Bell podcast on the WWE Network, Michael Cole mentions how CM Punk knee’d him in the mouth before WrestleMania 27.

Wrestling is way too wacky for its own good. Even before the cameras start rolling, wrestling behind the curtain is just as goofy (if not more) as the spectacle that WWE presents to the masses on television during a weekly basis.

Just ask Michael Cole. Or, rather, listen to his guest spot on Corey Graves’ latest edition of his After the Bell podcast on the WWE Network. There, the long lost grandfather of Adam talks about (per a transcription from Sportskeeda) how CM Punk knee’d him in the face hours before the biggest show of the year.

Let’s wind the clocks back to nearly nine years ago. The date is Apr. 3, 2011, and its the day of WrestleMania 27. A show where CM Punk will lose a match to Randy Orton and right afterwards, Michael Cole won his debut singles match against Jerry “The King” Lawler. Because that’s totally a match fans are begging to see on the Grandest Stage of Them All: two middle aged commentators duking it out.

Anyway, four hours beforehand, during what sounds like a practice session for the wrestlers, CM Punk runs across the ring at Michael Cole and delivers a knee lift to the face so devastating, that the commentator’s front tooth spills out of his mouth.

Of course, Punk (who Cole said he’s been good friends with after all these years) was super apologetic and sorry for “goofy around,” so much to the point that he offered to pay for Cole’s future dentist visit.

‘I’m not worried about the dental work,” Cole reassured Punk. “I’m about to lose the biggest pay day of my career because you knocked my tooth out!’”

Hopefully, Michael Cole winds up on an episode of WWE Backstage where him and Punk can recall the story in further detail one day.
