They say that creative ideas change at the drop of a dime in WWE, and that could not be more true than in the case of Drew McIntyre and his WWE Royal Rumble win.

If you are reading this, there is a good chance that you just got done watching the WWE Royal Rumble. As has been the case over the last couple of years, we got not one, but two big Royal Rumble match wins. Charlotte Flair won the first while Drew McIntyre won the main eventing second.

The latter case especially made for a big moment as not only did McIntyre win the bout, but eliminated WWE Champion Brock Lesnar earlier in the match after the best went on a dominant (albeit, comical) rampage throughout the match. McIntyre’s win was particularly interesting to see because he’s only received a substantial push over the past month or so.

The meteoric rise for the former Raw Tag Team Champion after having a lukewarm 2019 has been almost awe inspiring. We wrote recently on a report stating that McIntyre’s performances in lieu of his renewed push as a babyface has gained a new trust from creative management. Apparently, they trusted him to book him as the WWE Royal Rumble winner at the very last minute.

Per a new report from the always trustworthy Tom Colohue, the journalist learned from an unnamed WWE source that the decision to dub McIntyre as the winner of the Rumble came “moderately late,” but was a popular choice thanks to the positive reception that he has received from fans since leaning in to working as a babyface lately.

Looks like turning Drew McIntyre into a bonafide face just might be the best thing to happen to him during his WWE career. Now, with a World Championship match punched in him for him at WrestleMania, it seems all but confirmed now that he will be having a go at Lesnar’s WWE Championship on the Grandest Stage of Them all.
