WWE RAW: Time for payback! Becky Lynch needs to invade NXT
By Dorathy Gass
Things escalated rather quickly this past Monday Night RAW, when former WWE NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler attacked Becky Lynch after she successfully beat Asuka during their highly anticipated rematch from the 2020 Royal Rumble.
And Baszler didn’t just “attack” The Man, she literally (presumably that is, as the blood pouring from Shayna’s mouth may have been fake … eerr predetermined? I digress …) tore a chunk out from Lynch’s neck from the back, with blood pouring everywhere: Baszler’s mouth, Lynch’s neck, all over the mat and all over The Man.
Things are certainly getting interesting in the land of women’s wrestling as we navigate down the Road to WrestleMania. There has been a buzz for a while now since it was first rumored that Baszler has been the WM 36 opponent chosen for Becks.
However, since she failed to score a win in the 2020 Women’s Royal Rumble match, the WWE Universe has been waiting with baited breath to see when Baszler would come around The Man’s land to strike up a fight and officially launch a program.
Baszler certainly did that and more this past RAW, when she came up from behind Lynch, deliberately (and ever so exaggeratedly) threw her signature black mouth guard to the ring mat floor, pulled Becky’s ginger locks aside from the back, and took (seemingly) a bite as if she was sinking her teeth into a Big Mac.
Twitter exploded; the WWE Universe was divided on whether it was an awesome segment, or cheesy one (thanks to the blood); however, a HUGE statement was made regardless and a rivalry was officially born.
Shayna is more than ready for the main roster, if that even really exists at this point with all the hype NXT is getting now that it has moved to Wednesday nights on USA Network; not to mention the fact that it seems current NXT Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley is slowly solidifying a spot on the Grandest Stage of Them All, putting her title on the line against Flair.
With that said, even if main roster lines are blurred, Baszler is ready to dive into a different league regardless, and strut her stuff on the Red brand.

But rather than assume Baszler bleed red now – pun intended – a slow transition into RAW may be the way to go here. What I mean by that is, a perfect way to build this program up, and give NXT a little rub, is by Becky Lynch herself stomping on Shayna’s turf and attacking her, with a circa 2018 Survivor Series feel to it.
Not only would an appearance by The Man help to elevate NXT and potentially increase ratings/viewership, it would assist in continuing to heat up this WM 36 program, plus it aligns perfectly with Lynch’s current character.
The Man wouldn’t just let someone take a chunk out of her neck without some retaliation; she also wouldn’t stand there and wait a good seven days (or more) for some payback.
Better yet, why not do it during TakeOver Portland this Sunday? It would help to keep the momentum going for this program, keep things hot, and keep WM 36 in the mind of the average NXT viewer. It’s a win-win.
