On a card where WWE Elimination Chamber didn’t book many of its main event players, the Cruiserweights shined the brightest and it’s about time.

WWE Elimination Chamber was an entertaining pay-per-view for the most part. What it lacked in strong storylines, it more than made up for in impressive in-ring action. That was thanks in part to some great performances from the Cruiserweights.

Daniel Bryan, who has championed the division and smaller guys in general, opened the show with a fantastic match against Drew Gulak. The two delivered an excellent showcase of technical wrestling. It was good to see another former WWE Cruiserweight Champion earn the spotlight against someone as well-regarded as Bryan.

Their first match together had the potential to be one of the best matches on the card and it didn’t disappoint. It was equally hard-hitting and methodical. Hopefully, it will help to make Gulak a wrestler to keep an eye on in 2020. If anyone from the Cruiserweight division is capable of the character work needed to succeed on SmackDown, it’s him.

With that said, he wasn’t the only Cruiserweight who stood out on Sunday night. Humberto Carrillo also had a great showing against Andrade in the United States Championship match. This is probably the end of their feud, but they have had some fun matches together. Carrillo isn’t a well-rounded character like Andrade yet but his in-ring work is consistent.

Lastly, the Lucha House Party was a welcomed addition to the Elimination Chamber match for the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship. Fans who watched the Cruiserweight Classic or 205 Live already know Gran Metalik and Lince Dorado are both incredibly talented. The luchadors were the first team eliminated but they definitely made their time count with some thrilling high spots.

More from Daily DDT

Metalik and Dorado climbed to the top of a pod to escape the Usos and Kofi Kingston. Then, they re-enter the fray with a flying crossbody and a senton from the top. Next, Lince stole the show when he climbed to the top of the chamber and took out the field with an unbelievable shooting star press.

The way WWE has used the Cruiserweights since they started bringing them up to the main roster has left much to be desired. The division is full of some of the most crowd-pleasing and gifted wrestlers in the company. If Elimination Chamber was anything to go on, they need to make better use of Gulak, Metalik, and Dorado.

More to the point, there are other Cruiserweights like Mustafa Ali, Cedric Alexander, and Akira Tozawa who have nothing going at the moment. They are all exceptional and they could use the opportunity to show the WWE Universe what they can do, as well.

Next. The Daniel Bryan, Drew Gulak story is only beginning. dark

Hopefully, WWE Elimination Chamber is a good sign for the Cruiserweights on Raw and SmackDown. It probably wouldn’t be a bad idea to showcase them more on NXT, as well. There is so much potential there and it would be a shame for it to go to waste.
