Wrestling: 5 Biggest Talking Points From Talk Is Jericho with The Revolt
Shattering The Southern Stereotype
From multiple accounts, Vince McMahon is often peculiar about Southern accents despite being from North Carolina himself. Brodie Lee—a Rochester, NY native—fell victim to this as he was typecast for years as a backwoods lunatic in The Wyatt Family. The Revolt recounted that in their last meeting with Vince, McMahon appeared genuinely surprised at how well-spoken the duo were and noted they’d be perfect candidates to do meet-and-greets as well as other appearances.
Many wrestlers with Southern accents—legitimate or otherwise—have been subject to pigeonholing that forces them to come across as dumb, unruly, and in Cash Wheeler’s words, “full Forrest Gump”. Safe to say The Revolt’s resolve to change the perception of the Southern wrestler has paid off for both of them.
They Waited Until They Were In a Good Spot To Ask For Their Release
Often, talents request their release after months and even years of constant mishandling. While The Revolt definitely could’ve been utilized better during their WWE run, their message had another purpose. They decided to wait until they had some momentum going—specifically a victory on the January 14th, 2019 edition of Raw over Lucha House Party—to request their release while still in their gear.
The Triple Crown tag team cited Braun Strowman’s frequent demolition of tag teams, “The Monster Among Men” winning the Raw Tag Team Titles with a ten year old at WrestleMania 34, and the entire men’s tag team division being left off of last year’s SummerSlam as specific points of frustration.
Even upon being told about plans to give them a tag team title run and offered way more than the rumored $750,000 per year, The Revolt stood firm and rightfully pointed out the tag team titles would be rendered insignificant without proper emphasis on the tag team division as a whole.
