WWE SmackDown: Nikki Cross would be the one to turn on Alexa Bliss
On the most recent episode of WWE SmackDown, Nikki Cross and Alexa Bliss planted an important storytelling seed.
Over the past year, Nikki Cross and Alexa Bliss have been one of the biggest positives in the company, and they have continued their excellence on WWE SmackDown.
Earlier this year, they became the first two-time Women’s Tag Team Champions before dropping the titles to Sasha Banks and Bayley. But while they are no longer champions, they are still an important part of the Blue Brand, as exemplified by Cross’ great matches at Extreme Rules and on the July 24 episode of SmackDown against Bayley and Alexa Bliss, respectively.
The current SmackDown Women’s Champion, Bayley, cheated using “BOSS” Knuckles to defeat Cross at Extreme Rules. Cross proved to be a very game challenger, showing that she’s ready to be a world champion in addition to a tag champion.

On the episode of SmackDown after Extreme Rules, Cross understandably felt cheated by Bayley and Sasha Banks at the Pay Per View. She asked Bayley for a rematch, and the Golden Role Model obliged…on the condition that Cross would have to beat Bliss to get that chance.
Something changed in Cross in that moment. She shoved Bliss to the ground and screamed, demanding Bliss get in the ring so that Cross could earn another opportunity. You can understand her determination, but that was a subtle hint of the future.
Bliss and Cross have been a wonderful tag team so far. The formation of this team led to huge character development for both women, and it’s helped them immensely. It’s been good to see them stick together for more than a year, and hopefully they remain together for a few more months.
But all partnerships in wrestling end. So whenever this one does, Cross’ actions show that if there is a real break in their friendship or a real testing moment for them, Cross would be more likely of the two to turn. Wrestling fans may be waiting for the other shoe to drop with Bliss, considering her past as a heel who loved to bully others, but it looks like we could see heel Cross as a singles competitor. It could be a new “first” character-wise for the future women’s champion.
The storytelling between Cross and Bliss has always been as excellent as the on-screen chemistry, and while Bliss smoothed things over by encouraging Cross backstage to prepare her to beat Bayley, you have to wonder if Bliss will keep Cross’ actions in the back of her mind going forward. It’s something for her – and the audience – to tuck away in the coming months. Because Bliss vs. Cross, after all, has serious potential as a world title feud.
