Roman Reigns‘ current run as WWE Universal Champion began back at last year’s Payback pay-per-view event in August. On that night, he knocked off both The Fiend, Bray Wyatt, and The Monster Among Men, Braun Strawman in a no holds barred triple threat main event to capture his 5th world title in WWE.

Since then, The Tribal Cheif’s reign as WWE Universal Champion can be summed up with just one word: dominance.

While that sounds like (and probably is) something Michael Cole has already stated in the past, this sentiment means a great deal in the year 2021.

Several years ago, Roman Reigns was labeled a polarizing figure in the world of WWE. Some fans loved him, while others despised him.

Back then, things were a bit different than they are today. Despite getting a mixed to negative reactions from the fans in nearly every arena he wrestled in, The Big Dog never lashed out at his detractors. He’d simply brush the hate off his shoulders, smile, and tout that he wasn’t a “good guy”, he wasn’t a “bad guy”, he was “the guy”.

As you could imagine, this didn’t help things.

Despite the backlash from fans, Reigns continued to receive a monumental push in WWE. He was still featured in high-profile main events and he’d go on to defeat the likes of John Cena, Triple H, and perhaps most notoriously, The Undertaker.

In a way, he was just as dominant back then as he is in 2021.

There is one major difference between now and then, though.

This is the fact that Reigns is now a full-fledged heel and honestly, it’s something I’d never thought would make much of a difference in his case.

If you’ve been watching WWE Smackdown, you’ll see I clearly wasn’t accurate with my thoughts on this one.

Reigns’ current stint as Universal Champion has been one of WWE’s high points for the past year now.

He knocked off Edge in his most recent title defense at Money in the Bank and it seems the seeds are already being planted for Roman Reigns vs. John Cena at SummerSlam this year.

How long will The Tribal Cheif remain Universal Champion? No one really knows for sure.

Still, I have a more important question.

Who do you think will dethrone Roman Reigns as WWE Universal Champion?
