Big E should defeat Roman Reigns clean at Survivor Series
The stage is set for Survivor Series on Sunday. While “Brand Supremacy” the buzzword of the event, there aren’t any true stakes to the PPV showcase. Still, that doesn’t mean there aren’t any opportunities to elevate stars on the show. With that in mind, now would be the perfect time to see Big E defeat Roman Reigns.
While not perfect, Reigns 447-day run as WWE Universal Champion has been very well booked. He’s become the heel character that everyone expected him to be at some point in his career, exceeding those expectations. With The Usos and Paul Heyman by his side, Reigns has shown what type of superstar he’s capable of being for the WWE.
This title run has allowed him to overcome the likes of Kevin Owens, Finn Balor, John Cena, Daniel Bryan, and others. A real “Who’s Who” among performers in the promotion. Therefore, whoever is the first person to defeat him should be elevated into the stratosphere. Now is the time to do so with Big E.
Big E hasn’t been as well-protected as Reigns, but for the last year and some change, the WWE has done a strong job of building him up. Seeing him win the WWE Championship was the moment that fans pushed for during his run. Some had projected that he could be one of the few individuals to be a capable foil to face Reigns at WrestleMania. Instead, this showdown is occurring at Survivor Series with both men holding titles, which makes it a better opportunity to give E the win.
For Big E, a victory over Reigns would not only elevate his position, but the championship he’s carrying. There’s a clear delineation in the WWE as to which titles and champions are seen as the “priority.” This is an opportunity to muddle that picture and create some suspense around how both men and belts, plus the others on the brands, are managed. Predictability has a place in professional wrestling but shaking things up with a surprise victory like this would help build intrigue in what is next for both men.
Then there’s Reigns. Seeing him lose could send him down a path of becoming an even more demented “ruler” of WWE SmackDown. He already terrorizes that entire brand on a whim, imagine a situation where he loses and must further his iron grip around the roster. It would be a new wrinkle to what has already been a diabolical character to watch each week.
With the dwindling value of match victories, WWE has had a tough time developing stars that fans are invested in wholeheartedly. Big E is one of the exceptions, and a lot can be made with him picking up a victory over Roman Reigns at Survivor Series. While that seems unlikely, now would be the perfect time for it to happen.
