LA Knight is the perfect name to win the men’s King of the Ring
WWE needs to use the King of the Ring tournament to highlight a new name and LA Knight is the man for the job.
WWE officially announced the 2023 edition of the King and Queen of the Ring tournaments. Both showcases are set to occur on Saturday, May 27 at the Jeddah Superdome in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The overall continued outrage surrounding yet another trip to Saudi Arabia is understandable, especially as the looming WWE sale approaches. Yet, there is one individual who should immediately come to mind as the perfect winner of the men’s tournament, and that is none other than LA Knight.
The King of the Ring tournament is meant to highlight and elevate a mid-card talent, potentially pushing them into the main event picture. While there are memorable winners such as Bret Hart, Owen Hart, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and Booker T – there are several like Billy Gunn and Baron Corbin that fell completely off the mark. Knight would fit firmly in the former, rather than the latter group; especially if his opportunity to thrive continues in the current iteration of WWE.
This is the chance to build LA Knight for the main event
To say the feud between Knight and Bray Wyatt was anticlimactic would be an understatement. However, that criticism should fall firmly upon the storytelling perspective of the Wyatt angle, rather than on Knight. His two-year run with WWE has been praised for being entertaining, but his success can be chronicled back much further. Knight is a near-perfect example of the type of performer that WWE would elevate as a sports entertainer and these last two years prove that point.
When he stepped onto the main roster, Vince McMahon’s knack for messing up a talent almost won out, but even he was able to help MLM become something that held fans’ attention before breaking out on his own. Since then, he’s been one of the most consistent over acts on SmackDown, and coming out of that defeat to Wyatt at Royal Rumble, he remains featured on the show. He’s heading into the multi-man match to determine who gets a shot at GUNTHER at WrestleMania, showing that he’s someone WWE continues to feature prominently.
Knight has all the tools to be a main-event player in WWE. He has one of the best combinations of in-ring abilities, and microphone skills, and even at 40 years of age, looks the part. Allowing him to showcase all those talents in the King of the Ring tournament and come out on top would help seed him as a threat to individuals like Seth Rollins, Cody Rhodes, and other top babyfaces on the roster. WWE needs another main event, and quality heel talent and this is the right opportunity to give Knight that shine.
The location for the King of the Ring tournament will turn a lot of people off, and that’s understandably so. However, WWE should still take this moment to put the spotlight on a new face for the immediate future and that’s LA Knight. But please, please drop the cheap British accent part of the gimmick….”Yeah!”
