AEW Rampage: Blackpool Combat Club win Parking Lot Fight II

In 2020, wrestling companies got creative with the matches that they put on during the “No Fans Era” caused by the pandemic. AEW’s home base was Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Fla.  During that time, they experimented with various matches like Stadium Stampede and the Tooth and Nail match.

One of those matches was the Parking Lot Fight. Best Friends (Chuckie T and Trent) faced Proud ‘N Powerful (Santana and Ortiz) in the parking lot of Daily’s Place. They were encircled by cars that helped create a Fight Club meets Fast & Furious vibe. It was a brutal affair, with cars used as both weapons and ring mats. Weapons of many kinds were used, as anything goes in a parking lot fight.

There were two memorable spots from this match that fans still talk about three years later. One is Orange Cassidy hiding in a trunk and popping out to hit Santana with an Orange Punch. The other is Trent’s mom, Sue, driving her mom-van to pick up Best Friends and Cassidy after they won. Then, she flips off the camera just before the show ends.

Fast forward three years and the Best Friends found themselves in the sequel to the Parking Lot Fight. This time, they faced Jon Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli of the Blackpool Combat Club. Santana hasn’t wrestled in AEW since Blood & Guts 2022 due to an injury. Ortiz last wrestled in the Face of the Revolution ladder match back in March.

Parking Lot Fight II was bloody early on (surprisingly, Mox wasn’t the first to bleed, but he did bleed a lot). Best Friends seemed to be on a mission to remind everyone what they can do, as they’ve frequently been overlooked in the tag team division, particularly this year. Following the inaugural Parking Lot Fight, many assumed they’d become tag team champions at some point.

This parking lot fight had a spoiler alert (Castagnoli hitting Trent with a car’s spoiler), a giant swing into a trash can, curb stomps, and a Death Rider into a windshield.

BCC got some help when Wheeler Yuta jumped out of the back of a car. There was also another epic cameo by Sue and her mom-van. She came through with Cassidy riding on the top. Cassidy then did a crossbody onto BCC from the car’s roof. However, Sue was trapped when Mox and Castagnoli started attacking it. They let her leave before destroying her van and her son.

Blackpool Combat Club were able to beat Best Friends at their own game. While this feud seems far from over, BCC will face Lucha Bros. on Dynamite. We’re likely to see Best Friends and Cassidy wanting retribution for Sue. We may also be one step closer to Mox vs. Cassidy for the AEW International Championship.
