It has been nine days since John Cena shocked the wrestling world, turning on Cody Rhodes at the close of Elimination Chamber. Cena has been silent since that day, only posting vague images to social media. Expect that to change as it was announced that both John Cena and Cody Rhodes will be in the same building on the next episode of WWE Monday Night Raw.
Cena was previously advertised for the March 17 episode of Raw, which will take place at the Forest National in Brussels, Belgium. He is also advertised for two additional shows during WWE’s European tour. But those advertisements were before this turn and the stakes are at a whole different level.
The question about when fans will get to hear from Cena has been on everyone’s mind the last few days. Cena has been the most important figure in WWE for the last two decades, and he shunned all that with a kick to Cody Rhodes’s groin. Everyone will want to know how he will explain himself, or if he even cares to do so.
Cody Rhodes and John Cena must go face-to-face
Cody Rhodes has had quite a bit to say about John Cena. He’s cut two scathing promos targeting the former champion and eventual Hall of Famer. But he’s done so without Cena standing in front of him. One thing that Cena has done for decades is to rip his opponents apart on the microphone. There are several examples, from The Rock, CM Punk, Shawn Michaels, and more fan favorites.
But he’s yet to go into a promo battle with this iteration of Rhodes. One of Rhodes’s biggest improvements while outside the WWE was his ability to use every second of a promo to get fans invested. It was a skill that wasn’t cultivated while in WWE, but he got more than enough time on the microphone in All Elite Wrestling. All that time and practice will come in handy when he’s finally facing Cena with a microphone in hand, as they both have a lot to say heading into WrestleMania 41.
Cody Rhodes versus John Cena for the WWE Undisputed Championship is one of the most important angles for WrestleMania 41. When they face off in Belgium, this will be the moment that puts gasoline on an already raging fire heading into the biggest show of the year.
