Rhea Ripley versus Becky Lynch must main event Night One of WrestleMania 40

WWE Elimination Chamber was a massive success. The Australian crowd was rocking and they were particularly hyped for the hometown Queen, or “Hometown Mami” in Rhea Ripley. The WWE Women’s World Champion reigned supreme, headlining a show that was basically built around her. And she delivered. As the company heads into WrestleMania 40 it is clear she’s one of the biggest draws in the organization and she should be rewarded with a Night One main event.

Becky Lynch versus Rhea Ripley pits two of the biggest women in wrestling against each other. These ladies stand on top of the biggest platform in wrestling, which magnifies their reach in a way that can’t truly be matched in any other organization. Outside of Mercedes Mone, it’s hard for another performer, male or female, to truly compare. WWE has something special in this match and they deserve to be at the top of the biggest show of the entire year.

Of course, fans are watching what happens closely with The Bloodline versus Cody Rhodes. That is a two-year affair that is seemingly drawing to a close. And then there’s Bayley’s angle with Damage CTRL, one that is falling behind when it comes to prominence compared to other title angles. But denying Ripley versus Lynch this spot at the top would be a major disservice to the work these two ladies have done over the last 365 days.

At WrestleMania 39, Charlotte Flair and Rhea Ripley went out on a vision quest to steal the show. Many felt they were disrespected by not being the main event, but it is understandable why Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens versus The Usos took the top spot. That can’t happen in 2024. There’s no excuse to keep these two women out of the top position. Especially when you look at what they are capable of creating in the ring. The build to this match will have everything, sans the funny business of The Judgment Day. That has run its course. This match will be built on the fact that the two biggest names in women’s wrestling are having a one-on-one battle to see who is set to reign supreme for the next 365 days. Even though it’s still a month away, there’s already anticipation that this will be listed as one of the best matches of the entire year.

Becky Lynch versus Rhea Ripley must main event Night One of WrestleMania 40. There’s no telling what is coming with the biggest men’s angle in the promotion, but it should not supersede what these ladies have achieved. It’s time they are rewarded with a big main event to kick off the biggest showcase in professional wrestling.
