Shayna Baszler deserves a main roster title run

Shayna Baszler is a fantastic performer and personality in professional wrestling. WWE needs to give her a strong run at the top of WWE Raw.

The latest edition of Monday Night Raw featured two big matches in the women’s division. Lyra Valkyria and Iyo Sky picked up wins to set the stage for the semifinals to happen next week. Zoey Stark and Shayna Baszler found themselves on the wrong side of the win-loss ledger. Still, there’s one thing that fans will continue to push to see, and that is a major singles run for Baszler. It’s something that needs to happen sooner rather than later.

Shayna Baszler checks all the boxes when it comes to believability in professional wrestling. She’s a legit pioneer of women’s mixed martial arts, doing her part to carve out a path that names like Ronda Rousey eventually furthered.

Her professional wrestling run has been very respectable as well. Her two runs as NXT Women’s Champion were some of the best runs for any woman to hold the title, but all that momentum screeched to a halt on the main roster. Yes, she’s a three-time tag team champion, but there’s a space where she has all that’s needed to stand on her own as a singles champion on Monday Night Raw.

Baszler stands in the space where she’s either a heel, or a tweener-type character. Yet, fans still want to cheer her on every step of the way. Listen to the reaction she received at Bloodsport X as an example. Fans and her peers were chanting for Baszler in a way that was a surprise to people in attendance and watching the broadcast. Whenever she has a moment on WWE television, fans cheer. The support is there and it remains there, even as mid-card booking remains the placement she’s getting on the main roster.

Liv Morgan is set to take on Becky Lynch at King and Queen of the Ring. The expectation is that Morgan will pick up a big win, allowing Lynch to step into another space (if she re-signs with the company). That leaves Morgan versus Rhea Ripley to happen at some point. But after that, there’s a space where Baszler can be built into a true threat for whoever comes out of that as the winner. Imagine her carrying the Women’s Money in the Bank, but instead of using a sneak attack to get the title, calls her shot at a big card and makes it clear she’s going to step to the champion face-to-face. That’s the type of energy that Baszler brings, and it is high time that WWE presented her in such a fashion on a consistent basis.

Shayna Baszler is 43 years of age. While she’s still performing at a high rate, there’s no telling how much longer she really wants to do “the grind” that is WWE. She’s a fantastic performer in all avenues of the game and fans are ready to see her get that big moment. Baszler deserves a strong build and booking that leads to her carrying a singles title on Monday Night Raw.
