WWE must re-sign Ricochet
Free agency remains one of the biggest stories of 2024. Several top names either showed up in new promotions, or re-signed new deals with their current company. There’s one individual who is set to see their contract expire this Summer and WWE must do all possible to keep them on the roster. Reports are that Ricochet’s contract is set to end this year and he’s a performer that WWE must keep on the roster.
Ricochet is one of many names within WWE whose contract was or is set to expire this year. WWE has re-signed some performers like Seth Rollins, Drew McIntyre, Bayley, and Zelina Vega. Others like Dijak, Becky Lynch, and Ricochet are still up on the air. It will be interesting to see who the company is able to keep on the payroll, and who leaves for other opportunities. Ricochet is someone that needs to be among the group that remains within the company because of everything he brings to the table.
Ricochet is perfect for professional wrestling and sports entertainment. He’s the type of specimen that could have been a star at nearly every sport. But transitioning those abilities, along with his look, makes him the superhero that wrestling organizations look for every generation. There’s almost nothing he can’t do in the ring. Fans knew that when he signed with the company, but Vince McMahon’s inept booking made him just another name on the roster. He’s seen a strong turnaround since Triple H took over, but that’s just scratching the service of the main event-level performer that Ricochet can be for any company looking to secure his services.
If he does reach free agency, Tony Khan and AEW must make a major play for Ricochet. Imagine having him on the roster with Will Ospreay, Konosuke Takeshita, Kenny Omega, Kyle O’Reilly, Dante Martin and several more. The matches would be amazing. But would he be able to get the same type of platform that is possible in WWE? That’s a question that he’ll have to answer according to his own goals, but there’s a smorgasbord of dream matches available for him wherever he goes. Ricochet in the G1 Climax as a member of the AEW roster? Yes, please!
The issue with free agency is that everyone isn’t going to get a new contract. There are some that will re-sign for the deal they want, re-sign for less, or leave in hopes of finding more. The onus is on the promotion and the performer to find a middle ground that makes things work for everyone involved. When it comes to Ricochet, WWE, and Endeavor need to make the numbers work because he’s the perfect performer for this promotion and it’s time he’s treated as such.
