TNA re-signing Tessa Blanchard is an unforced error
TNA Wrestling may not be the biggest promotion in the world, but it is one that has the attention of fans who love the product. There are a lot of reasons why TNA has a fanbase. One such reason is the booking of its women’s division, as TNA took the lead in featuring the women on the same level as the men. One of the names involved was, who made headlines recently as she’s back in TNA. But after the reasons why she departed, and the fallout of such, this is a major mistake that TNA needs to be held accountable for making.
TNA has been in the headlines lately but not for the best reasons. Three of its top names are set to evaluate free agency opportunities. Jordynne Grace is expected to head to WWE when her contract ends in 2025. Josh Alexander and “Speedball” Mike Bailey are free agents and ready to go after the best deals available to them. As the number three location in North American wrestling, these moments tend not to work out in TNA’s favor. In the eyes of many, re-signing Blanchard was the company attempting to bring back a name that would grab attention. And she’s one that will grab attention but for all the wrong reasons.
For those unaware, Blanchard became the first woman to capture the Impact World Championship on January 12, 2020. That came at a time in which Blanchard was facing allegations of racism and bullying from other women throughout the industry. Blanchard never admitted wrongdoing, instead, she doubled down on denying the issues, even as more names such as La Rosa Negra and Chelsea Green openly talked about the matters at hand.
Still, TNA put the championship around Blanchard’s waist, and when her time ended with the company it wasn’t because of what she was accused of doing, Instead, there were rumors that her contract was terminated because she refused to give back the title and was demanding more money from the organization. In the face of all those allegations, TNA still elected to bring this problematic performer back to the roster.
Unforced errors happen in more places than the baseball diamond. TNA Wrestling has made more than its fair share but bringing back Tessa Blanchard at a time in which the company needed some positive momentum is not the way to go about it. Yet, the organization has doubled down on the decision. One that will certainly cost them fans.
