WWE: Will Damien Sandow be Santino Marella 2.0?

Last week on Raw, Damien Sandow came out and gave the WWE Universe an open and honest promo about his past and his current opinion on his career. Is he going to end up being another comedic act like Santino Marella turned into?

It wasn’t that long ago that Damien Sandow looked to be on the rise. He had a decent run with Cody Rhodes as a tag team called “Rhodes Scholars”.  After that breakup, Sandow would go on to win the WWE Money in the Bank contract. That was an epic win for Sandow, but it also showed signs that the WWE had big plans for him by having him win this match.

Most wrestlers who won the MIB case at the time, went on to win the WWE Championship or at the very least cement themselves into main event caliber matches. But this wouldn’t happen for Sandow.

After winning the MIB contract, Sandow went into a lengthy losing streak. He had matches against Cody Rhodes who he turned on to win the contract, Dolph Ziggler, R-Truth, Santino, and others. All of these matches Sandow found himself on the losing end of.

He finally cashed in his MIB contract when he attacked Cena after he injured his arm in a Hell in a Cell match the night before. The match was good and it had the crowd on the edge of their seat that they might actually see Sandow win the title. There were a lot of near falls in the match, but Sandow and Cena had a very good match together. Cena would win and Sandow then would start his character gimmick.

Even if he didn’t like the “Intellectual Savior of the Masses”, I thought it was a great gimmick. He came off as a mixture of “Ravishing” Rick Rude, The Genius, and Mr. Perfect all rolled into one. I’ll admit it probably didn’t have long term staying power to see him vault into the main event scene, but they should have at least tried.

Now I’m afraid that he is going to be the comedic act that WWE forces on to one wrestler who they cannot think of anything better for. Al Snow, Charlie Haas, Goldust, Crash Holly, and Santino all have gone through it and each deserved better….as does Sandow.

Maybe the WWE will finally end this Stardust gimmick and team the two of them together again to go after the tag titles. Personally, I’d like to see him be one that upsets John Cena for the U.S. Title in this “U.S. Title Open Challenge” Cena has set.

All I know is that he is too good of a wrestler and has too much character to be dropped down in the roster and forgotten about – at least that is my opinion. “You’re Welcome!”
