New reports are suggesting that prior to making his WWE return, Edge had contract negotiations with AEW, but he had no intentions of going “All Elite.”

Edge made his shocking return to the ring last Sunday at the Royal Rumble, but it has been said that he has been cleared to wrestle as early as October, as it has been said there were backstage discussions regarding when he could return ever since Hell in a Cell. It is speculated that perhaps it was during this point after his clearance that he may have first spoken to All Elite Wrestling.

Yesterday, we covered reports about Edge having discussions with AEW prior to his WWE return, but now we are learning that the Rated R Superstar may have had no intentions of joining the promotion at all.

In details provided by talkSPORT, they spoke to sources who told them that it is extremely likely that Edge only had contract discussions with Tony Khan and Co. simply to leverage himself a better deal with WWE.

If that was the case, then Edge certainly got his wish. In fact, one source told talkSPORT that both Edge and his wife Beth Phoenix “were smiling ear-to-ear” after learning the details of his latest contract.

In the same report, the folks at talkSPORT were also kind enough to share details regarding the nature of this new in-ring deal that Edge has signed. Apparently, Edge has signed a three year deal with WWE that promises him $3 million per year as long as he competes three times a year and makes 25 appearances per year.

As of now, the 11-time World Champion is expected to work five matches for WWE in 2020, with the Royal Rumble counting as one of them. Presumably, it is expected that WWE will find a way to work a WrestleMania match in there, along with perhaps a big PPV like SummerSlam and the two Saudi Arabia shows in between.
