Natural Heel Column: John Cena’s Best Run Ever?
Is this the greatest we’ve seen John Cena perform?
Love Him or Hate Him, John Cena Is Having The Best Year Of His Career
A year ago at this time, Cena was not the most liked wrestler among the die-hard wrestling fans. He just came out of a feud with Bray Wyatt, where many fans would argue that he destroyed Wyatt’s momentum.
Fast forward a full year, it can be argued that the U.S. champ is currently the most captivating star on the roster. His run has been special and it feels like the most organic thing on the show. With his incredible run, we’ve gotten the classic feud that is Cena vs Owens.
Cena has had some high quality programs throughout his illustrious career, but I believe this one in particular is his best. During John’s climb to the top he has faced his fair share of criticism from a certain segment of the fans base.
These fans would at times find ways to pick out his staleness and assume he was never willing to put over some of the younger stars on the roster. As of now, he is essentially the same character he was a year ago, but he has found a way to tweak his presence.
By paying more attention to his performance in the ring and willingness to work with exclusively young talent, Cena has changed the minds of many doubters. Also, we’re not getting a John that needs to overcome the odds. Instead he has turned into a man who accepts any challenge.
This feud has been the talk of Summer in WWE. I honestly believe this might be the best build to one of Cena’s feuds since Money in the Bank 2011. Since Owens is came into the feud on fire is one of the reason’s I expected Cena to walk away from the bout as the winner.
I’ve always considered him one of the few faces the company has had in their history, and he can proudly say that out of all of them he has taken a step back into smaller role to help elevate the younger portion of the roster. Not many top guys of the past can say they have done what John is currently pursuing.
To me it’s as if he took a look in the mirror and said to himself that he wanted to do more as a sports entertainer, even though he’s accomplished more than most in his field. His current position is reminiscent of they used Angle at times off the main card.
What we’ve seen the leader of Cenation do within the past four months has been nothing short of spectacular. The open challenges has built up the prestige that was missing form the United States Championship.
2015 is without question the best year of his career. What’s next for the U.S. Champion? Champion vs. Champion match vs. Seth Rollins at Summer Slam? This fan would sure hope so.
