Big Show Talks Retirement, Acting, and Undertaker vs. Lesnar

Big Show spoke about numerous things in his wrestling career including possible retirement and more.

Along with his memorable entrance theme the Big Show has been accompanied by chants of “please retire” every time he enters the ring. It’s been unavoidable and unmistakable, especially with Big Show frequently expressing his frustration with the crowd.

The largest superstar in WWE history has been with the company since 1999 after a four-year stint in WCW, and while he has had many accomplishments, including winning the World Heavyweight Championship twice, his career is clearly winding down. Recently he’s been promoting his starring role in the WWE Studios film, “Vendetta”, and in a recent conversation with DigitalSpy he talked about his move into acting and the possible end of his wrestling career.

It’s clear the fans have grown tired of seeing the Big Show on TV every single week, and it turns out he actually agrees with them, while also suggesting the WWE audience is taking him for granted:

"“I think so – I think the uniqueness and the special things that I bring to WWE is sometimes a little bit downplayed because you see me every week. I think quite frankly I have been on TV too much, but part of it is necessity and part of it’s ability. I’m able to work, I am able to get other talent over. I am able to carry storylines. When you’re good at what you do you’re going to work. That’s a good thing. But from the standpoint of being an attraction, sometimes too much isn’t good. So it’s a difficult fine line.”"

Big Show has acted in movies sporadically since 1996 and has appeared in some fairly big comedies such as “The Waterboy”, “Jingle All the Way”, and “MacGruber”. He admits that working on the action film “Vendetta” has him thinking about a future away from the squared circle:

"“I think absolutely. I’ve had a fantastic career – I’m still competing on a full-time schedule, but nothing good lasts forever. So eventually I’m going to have to transition out of this industry and do something else that’s entertaining and exciting for me. I think a natural evolution for me would be to try to transfer over into the film and TV world and start playing different characters."

Big Show will be involved in a Triple Threat match for the Intercontinental Title at the SummerSlam PPV, a show which will be headlined by Brock Lesnar vs. The Undertaker. As someone who has faced both men frequently over the years and defeated them both, Big Show expressed his thoughts on who will win the anticipated WrestleMania rematch:

"“You’ve got Lesnar – he’s such a monster right now. The fact that Lesnar broke The Streak, who is the only guy that should have, or could have ever broken The Streak – personally I would never have liked to see The Streak broken ever – but all good things come to an end. The Streak got broken….You’ve got Undertaker who’s without a doubt the greatest big man of all time, versus Lesnar who’s without a doubt one of the best shooters of all time. It should be absolutely amazing.”"

Big Show can be seen in “Vendetta” which is available now On Demand and hits DVD on August 31st. Big Show faces Ryback and The Miz for the Intercontinental title at SummerSlam on Sunday, August 23rd.
