It’s time for WWE to end the push of Eva Marie in NXT.

Fans constantly call for superstars to be pushed. Cesaro, Dolph Ziggler, Zack Ryder, and of course Daniel Bryan are just a few examples of this over the last few years. However, you rarely see fans asking for WWE to stop pushing someone. Sure, we may be indifferent toward some guys getting thrusted into the main event, but you hardly ever see an explicit request to stop putting someone in the limelight. WWE, this is me speaking for almost every other wrestling fan when I say, please stop pushing Eva Marie.
Listen, I get it. She was horrible during her first stint in NXT, she left, worked hard to get better, and now she’s back. It’s a classic story that WWE can easily use to justify her getting an opportunity in the NXT women’s division. But the issue is it’s not believable.

As wrestling fans, we can all suspend our disbelief a little. We have to. But when WWE is trying to preach this story of Eva’s comeback, then we actually need to see some results. Eva’s match against Carmella the week of NXT Takeover was one of the worst matches I’ve ever had the displeasure to watch. “You can’t wrestle” chants blared throughout the arena, as these two struggled to put together anything resembling a decent wrestling match.
I understand WWE’s point of view, which entails Eva being an attractive diva who already has a ton of heat from the fans. But it’s not the right kind of heat. The saying goes that “Any reaction is a good reaction.”, but I believe this is the exception. People don’t hate Eva because of her attitude, real or kayfabe. They hate her because she physically cannot wrestle. It is painful to watch her put her opponent in headlock after headlock, in the hopes that maybe she’ll pull off a decent athletic maneuver eventually.
Again, although she’s being pushed as a heel and she’s getting the desired crowd reaction, it’s not going to work. Of course we’re going to boo her when she comes out, but due to her deficiency in the ring, no one is going to believe she should ever actually win a match. Wrestling is scripted, we all know this, but the results are realistic. You’re never going to see Bo Dallas beat Brock Lesnar, because they need to maintain a certain level of realism with the product. Eva, especially when she eventually feuds with credible competition like Bayley, or anyone on the main roster if/when she gets there, is not going to be taken seriously.
I don’t have anything against Eva Marie personally, but she’s simply not ready. And according to Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Wrestling Inc), WWE is rumored to be putting her in a rivalry with Bayley in the next few months, resulting in her eventually becoming the NXT women’s champion, which is a huge mistake. I don’t hate her character, I don’t dislike her as a person, but WWE needs to take a step back and actually let her improve significantly instead of just telling everyone she already has.
