#1 – 1998 King of the Ring: Undertaker vs Mankind
“As God as my witness, he is broken in half.”
Jim Ross had several different memorable calls in his career with WWF/WWE, but none made more of an impact in all of our memories as what took place In King of the Ring in 1998. Watching the match live, there were a number of moments where you were virtually worried for the well-being of Mick Foley.
Right off the bat, both men were standing on the top of the Hell in a Cell, with Undertaker tossing Foley about 20 feet down to crash through the announce table. Medics were called and thousands of fans really thought Mankind was seriously injured.
In a moment that helped make Foley’s career, he got himself back up with a smile on his face and climbed back to the top of the cage – only to receive a chokeslam through the roof and into the cage. As Foley lied looking as if he was hit by a car, good ol’ J.R. said it best – “Will somebody stop the damn match? Enough is enough.”
It wasn’t enough as the match continued about another 10 minutes with a number of memorable spots that included steel chairs, thumbtacks and a bloody smile from Foley as he was supported by holding the turnbuckles. It was a memorable match where Undertaker looked dominant, but it made Foley the hardcore legend he is known as today.
