Final Thoughts
This was a solid episode of RAW that advanced some storylines and delivered some good bouts as well. The focus of the show was on the wrestling, which lead to some good performances in the ring.
The two areas to nitpick here are the Rusev-Summer segment because it was confusing and just seemed totally tacky. The second smaller thing is that there was no definitive write off for John Cena, who is taking time off soon. It would have been more effective for New Day to incapacitate Cena and make him out of action with injury to really cement them as top heels in WWE.
Well, there is also a small third thing to nitpick:
Brock Lesnar’s appearance was extremely well done and a great way to start the show. Lesnar dominated Big Show and Paul Heyman did his usual mastery on the microphone to make everyone excited for the final chapter of Lesnar-Undertaker at Hell in a Cell.
The Divas division got a lot of air time tonight, with multiple rivalries and some motivations for different Divas. Paige is out to prove she is the best, Natalya wants respect, Nikki wants her title back, Team B.A.D wants to show they’re the best. It adds levels to the Divas division and gives the talented women of the division much more substance when they appear on programming.
Roman Reigns had a good night, looking really strong in the 6-man tag match and doing a stand-up job during the Susan G. Komen segment with Cena. Reigns is going to be expected to carry the load, alongside Ambrose, with Cena missing significant time. Finishing his feud with Wyatt at Hell in a Cell will allow both men to move on to different things.
RAW had different match-ups, lots of storyline advancement, and for once didn’t end with the WWE World Heavyweight Title angle. Having New Day end the show as a dominant force really gives them more legitimacy as heels, and shows the faith WWE has in the trio going forward.
