Roman Reigns wins the title

Prior to WWE Champion Seth Rollins suffering his injury, which saw him stripped of the title and the tournament announced, Roman Reigns was set to face Rollins for the belt at Survivor Series. If some reports are to be believed, Vince McMahon had Reigns pencilled in to win the belt from Rollins in the match and the pair to feud until WrestleMania for the belt. When the injury happened, I guess they just decided to stick to the original plan and have Reigns still win the belt, what a bad idea that was.

More from WWE

A tournament full of lackluster matches, finished off with two babyfaces squaring off in short match that failed to grab the crowd’s attention for large portions. If you’d have had Reigns facing a top heel in the final, and going on to win, the fans may have accepted him winning his first WWE Championship a little more. Ever since he was booed out of town at the Royal Rumble, and then did what many thought impossible and get The Rock booed as well, the writing has been on the wall as far as the fans are concerned. It’s very much like we’re being force-fed Reigns as the next big babyface, a spot that he isn’t really ready for or capable of fulfilling. With a company, or more like Vince McMahon, determined that he will be the next big thing it sticks in the throat of the fans somewhat.

A company with Reigns at the pinnacle is going to struggle to turn around the ratings slump, Reigns is far from ready to be the man who can carry the company on his back. That’s not me hating on him, that just sticks out as the truth. Even the post match fireworks and confetti couldn’t make this moment feel as special as it should have.
