WrestleMania 32: Why Sami Zayn vs. Kevin Owens is Needed for the Show

With Sami Zayn set to return to WWE NXT soon, here’s why he should be facing a familiar foe at WrestleMania 32 in Apr.

Over 6 months ago, at NXT TakeOver: Unstoppable, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn faced off for the NXT Championship.

Coming into the match, we knew Zayn had an injured shoulder, leading to him barely being cleared to wrestle at the event. He suffered the injury seconds before his WWE Raw debut match against John Cena weeks prior.

Well, we never got a definitive ending to the match because Owens began beating down Zayn viciously. Then Samoa Joe came out to make his WWE NXT debut, leading to the bout ending in a no contest. It meant Owens vs. Zayn would be settled at a date to be determined.

So as it stands, Owens is the guy who hurt Zayn in storyline and caused him to miss time. It would make plenty of sense for Zayn to go after Owens, right?

How about at WrestleMania 32?

Putting these two into a match on Apr. 3 isn’t an uncommon idea. The scenario everyone dreams of is Zayn coming out during the Royal Rumble in Jan. to take out Owens from the match and lead to a WrestleMania 32 contest to settle things. It makes plenty of sense to do, as getting this rivalry on the grandest stage of them all would be satisfying. There may be an outside chance of this happening too, as WWE NXT aired a return vignette for Zayn.

However, if anything, this match may be a necessity for the WrestleMania 32 card.

It’s no secret that WWE has dealt with a flurry of injuries this year. In the past 7 months, WWE has lost Daniel Bryan, Seth Rollins, Randy Orton, Cesaro and Sting to injury. It means this card is going to be thin. Add in The Rock not being able to wrestle due to insurance issues, and the situation looks bleaker.

WWE has no idea what to do with the WrestleMania 32 card. Plans are in shambles and nothing is set. This is usually a time where they have at least the main event in mind for the show, and that’s nowhere near decided.

Well, with Zayn coming back, WWE has a ready-made feud for WrestleMania. They could fill in a big gap in the card and put on a wrestling clinic for the WWE Intercontinental Championship. It would steal the show and would somewhat make up for the loss of other talent.

This also takes the burden off legends, who are likely getting calls to wrestle at the show. WWE was looking to do this either way to make this the biggest WrestleMania ever, but they haven’t had much luck to the public’s knowledge. This may be for the better, as younger talent will have the chance to show off at the biggest WWE show of the year. This would be where Zayn and Owens step in.

Sami Zayn vs. Kevin Owens at WrestleMania 32 is a logical idea that many fans want to see. It may be needed more than ever, though, if WWE is having that much trouble putting together the match card.
