WWE is Wasting The Wyatt Family with Poor Booking
By Carl Gac
Looking at how The Wyatt Family are not the stars they should be in WWE.
Turn back the clock to last years Royal Rumble. A few months earlier The Wyatt Family had split up. Bray Wyatt ended up in the ring with Erick Rowan and Luke Harper. The crowd realised that this was potentially the group getting back together and they realised how good that the three of them could have been together again. Bray had set Harper and Rowan free and looked like he may be headed for bigger things, well those things have still not happened. In that, Rumble Wyatt eliminated both of them and lasted nearly 50 minutes in the match before being eliminated by Kane and The Big Show.
That’s where Bray Wyatt’s push began to fall apart.

Wyatt has the potential to be the most important man in the entire WWE. He is good in the ring, regularly cuts the best promos in the entire company and has a unique character that connects with the fans. Following on from the disappointment of not winning the Rumble, he was pushed into an unwinnable feud with The Undertaker. Putting them both together would seem like the perfect fit, and it is, but it just seemed like Wyatt was treading water, waiting for something better to come along.

Following his loss to Undertaker at WrestleMania, he entered into a nothing feud with Ryback, beating him at PayBack. That was followed by a months-long feud with Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose, which lead to the reformation of The Wyatt Family, but again it was a feud in which Wyatt was destined to fail. He was used as the man to get Reigns over and as good as their matches were, again it felt like a way to set someone else up other than Bray.
One good thing to come from the Wyatt vs Reigns feud was the introduction of the newest Wyatt Family member, Braun Strowman. The man who makes the other Wyatt’s look small in comparison was an NXT rookie who had been learning his craft at the WWE Performance Centre. He totally bypassed NXT tv and was added as the giant of The Wyatt Family, whilst everything was done to cover up how green he was in the ring.
After losing to Reigns at Hell in a Cell in October, Wyatt attacked The Undertaker and in the following weeks would attack Kane as well. Taking the Brothers of Destruction hostage and looking to set up a big feud between the teams, it brought the best out of Wyatt but would only lead to Bray and Harper losing to Taker and Kane at Survivor Series.

After that nostalgia trip, the Wyatt’s ran headlong into “Team Extreme”. The Dudley Boys, Tommy Dreamer and Rhyno would create an ECW nostalgia team that would lose to The Wyatt Family at TLC to end the year. 2016 wouldn’t bring much more for the Family, their biggest achievement being attacking Ryback and the Big Show on Raw to announce their entry into the Royal Rumble.
With The Wyatt Family, the WWE have the perfect set of wrestlers to dominate the company for years to come. Bray is one of the best all-round talents to come through NXT. Rowan and Harper make a great backup pairing and both could hold gold. Strowman is the perfect enforcer, the fact he’s still pretty young in the business is more than shadowed by good booking and making him look like the real monster of the group. They just need the booking team to have the faith in them to take the ball and run with it.

There is so much that could be done to really establish them as a massive threat to everyone that steps in front of them. Adding the much talked about “Sister Abigail” to the group could give us a glimpse of Bray’s motivation. Harper and Rowan could be given tag team gold and the group could do everything to make sure they aren’t beaten. Strowman can be the monster enforcer that his size and strength quite obviously shows him to be. With Bray pulling the strings he can be the man to fill the shoes of The Undertaker in the next few years.
The Royal Rumble may very well be the place to establish them as the threatening monsters that the fans know they can be. At a time when the company needs to do everything they can to build new main event stars, a man like Bray Wyatt backed by Harper, Rowan and Strowman can finally be allowed run roughshod over the company and claim their rightful place in the main event bracket.

It’s been well over a year that The Wyatt Family have been waiting for someone to pull the trigger and let them be the stars that they quite obviously can be. The next few months are pivotal for them. If WWE wants the fans to still buy into The Wyatt Family gimmick it needs to go somewhere, rather than just go round in circles and end up nowhere.
