Global Cruiserweight Series to Air on WWE Network in July 2016
WWE will seemingly be going through with this rumored cruiserweight tournament, known as the Global Cruiserweight Series.
Over the past few weeks, there have been rumors on WWE doing a tournament featuring wrestlers in a low weight class competing in a tournament under the company brand. It would be something similar to New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Super Jr. Tournament that takes place every summer.
Well, WWE has officially announced that a Global Cruiserweight Series is coming to the WWE Network.

"GLOBAL CRUISERWEIGHT SERIES – SERIES PREMIERE WEDNESDAY, JULY 13 AT 9PM ETFor the first time ever, WWE invites cruiserweights from all over the world to compete in the inaugural Global Cruiserweight Series. Thirty-two of the greatest in-ring competitors under 205 lbs. will descend upon Full Sail University in Orlando and collide over 10 weeks to earn the right to call themselves the best cruiserweight in the world."
This is ground-breaking not only for WWE but for wrestling. People who would seemingly never receive the exposure that those signed to WWE gets will have the opportunity to show the world what they can do. It could be a reason why about 30 names were at the Performance Center on Monday for tryouts.

Who specifically gets added to this tournament will be something to keep an eye on and from what company. WWE doesn’t have the best relationship with TNA and ROH, so their wrestlers may be out of the picture if they have clauses in their contract where they can’t work for certain places.
However, WWE has had a growing relationship with EVOLVE. It wouldn’t be surprising to see some of their best guys in this tournament, who are ones that have been pulled from all around the world. Zack Sabre Jr., Will Ospreay and Johnny Gargano could be involved.
