WWE WrestleMania 32 Predictions: Undertaker vs. Shane McMahon

facebooktwitterreddit

A look at the predictions for the Undertaker vs. Shane McMahon match at WrestleMania 32.

One of the marquee matches on the WrestleMania 32 match card will feature Shane McMahon vs. The Undertaker in a Hell in a Cell match. If Shane wins, he gets control of Monday Night Raw. This would also mean Taker can’t compete at WrestleMania anymore.

This match was created when Shane made his shocking return to WWE over a month ago. His father, Vince McMahon, would put him in this contest after asking for control of Raw.

So could there be a new power in WWE after WrestleMania 32? The Daily DDT staff took a look at this with the match predictions.

As much as I want to see the Authority come to an end and Shane to take over WWE, it’s extremely unlikely Undertaker loses another Mania match. Even if there was interference to help Shane win, it would still go down as a loss for Taker and it would begin to tarnish what was once an untouchable WrestleMania streak. Losing to Brock Lesnar is one thing, but Shane? I expect Taker to win this one.

I can’t see this being the last match the Undertaker will have at WrestleMania, but I can’t see Shane coming back and fighting for control of the company only to fall short. My gut is telling me Undertaker comes out on top, but ultimately turns on Vince and somehow helps Shane to expose the deep dark secret that led to the match being created in the first place. This way Undertaker is available for future WrestleMania events, but Shane can get some kind of control over the company.

Well with the ownership of Raw on the line this could be the most important match the WWE has had in a ling time. There has to be some way of giving Taker the win, but Shane still ending up with control of the Raw and the company. Expect to see Shane jump/get thrown off the top of the cage, Vince McMahon to get involved to try and beat Shane, and some kind of rebellion from Taker to take out Vince. Even with Taker winning Shane can still use the box of secrets that he mentioned on his first appearance back on Raw earlier this year.

WWE has overbooked this match. The return of Shane McMahon was electric. The electricity was intensified when Shane declared that he wanted control of Monday Night Raw. Even when Vince McMahon said his son would need to defeat The Undertaker in a Hell in a Cell match at Wrestlemania 32, there still was enough intrigue for the match. But then, WWE went way over top with their booking. What happens in the end? Shane will win the match. But, Shane may be aided by a returning John Cena. Cena interfering in this match may set up his match with The Undertaker at Wrestlemania 33.

For a more interesting story going forward, Shane should probably get the win, but I have a tough time seeing Undertaker lose and then have Shane be the one to retire (or, at least, keep him away from WrestleMania) “The Deadman.” Also, I’m pretty sure Shane is going off the cell a la Mick Foley.

This is the most interesting match of the night because on its face it makes no sense but the consequences for both men have far-reaching implications. If Undertaker wins, Shane forfeits his stake in the WWE and must give up the “forbidden box of Vince McMahon blackmail mysteries” he has been holding for all these years. If Shane wins, he gets to count himself as only the second person to best the Dead Man at WrestleMania. Oh, and he gets control of RAW. I found it interesting when Vince told the Undertaker that if he loses, he would be fired. If Shane has control of RAW, couldn’t he simply block said firing or just rehire Undertaker immediately? I know, I know, in this day and age storyline details like that don’t matter, blah, blah, blah. Get off my back about it. The pressure of the streak is over so Undertaker doesn’t have to be unbeatable anymore and since there is no way Shane wins clean I expect interference from someone with a vested interest in seeing The Authority deposed. (e.g. Cena or Sting). We say this every year, but I predicted in a previous post that 2016 would be Undertaker’s last. A loss here will go a long way towards validating my statement.

“But wait! That would make this Undertaker’s retirement match!” Nope. Vince McMahon made that stipulation, and with his win Shane would be in charge. He’ll make sure that Undertaker is back for next year where he can finally have his retirement match against John Cena.

WWE needs a face authority figure in the worst possible way. The run of The Authority has lasted nearly three years, which is excessive for a stable. Almost every storyline has been worn out or replicated.

Unfortunately, I don’t see that changing, but with a twist.

Something that WWE has taught the fans over the years is to never trust a McMahon. They will either turn their backs on each other or join forces at any moment. That could be the case at WrestleMania 32 with Vince finding a way to help Shane to defeat Undertaker. The father-son duo would then run WWE. This would set up a power struggle storyline with Triple H and Stephanie McMahon except with the roles reversed. We need some type of swerve, right?

In what could be the match of the night with some of the biggest storyline implications, Shane McMahon once again is featured in a match he should have no business being in and will likely do something crazy that will up the standards of this classic match. In what could be one of three matches that could feature blood at WrestleMania I expect this match to live up to the expectations. I really want Shane to win but only one man has ever beat the Undertaker at Mania and I can’t see it happening again.

Shane absolutely has to win this. Otherwise, what was the point of this whole thing? Why on earth would the WWE bring Shane back, make him look like a returning savior just so he could lose to a guy that would beat him 99 times out of 100 anyways? Shane is going to win but it’s a huge question of how. Outside interference is almost guaranteed by both sides. Expect to see Vince involve himself, possibly even Stephanie and Triple H. And look for a massive return of someone to come out and help Shane win. And I swear if it’s Cena I’ll boycott the WWE.

How do you call this one? The likely main event of the night is as polarizing a match a WWE has ever had at WrestleMania, which is funny because two months ago NOBODY would have thought it would be happening. Shane arrived and immediately became the top babyface on the roster, without wrestling a single match. And the stipulation that he gains control of RAW with a victory has incredible implications. Does it lead to a brand split, with him running RAW and the Authority in control of Smackdown? It also means retirement for the Undertaker, but can anyone fathom a scenario in which the greatest WrestleMania performer in history loses his final match to a McMahon and not some rising superstar or Hall of Famer? If this were any other week I’d say this ends in a “No Contest”, but that ain’t happening now. I’m honestly unsure of what is going to happen here, and that in and of itself is incredibly exciting. So I’ll just go with my gut.
