Following the news of Roman Reigns 30-day suspension, the former WWE Champion now needs to be removed from the main event at Battleground.

Las Tuesday was a bit of a shock in the wrestling world when Roman Reigns was suspended for 30 days for violating WWE’s Wellness policy. While it has yet to be revealed what Reigns took, it was bad enough for WWE to send him home.

The suspension could not come at a worse time for fans. After all the craziness that transpired at Money in the Bank, Shane McMahon made a huge announcement that Battleground was going to feature Reigns, Dean Ambrose, and Seth Rollins in the main event for the world title, making this the first time all three former Shield members faced each other.

While many fans were shocked and bummed that this highly anticipated match was going to be wasted on Battleground, people were still pumped to see it. However, after the Reigns suspension, the main event was left in question.

The expectation was that WWE would address the situation on Thursday’s episode of SmackDown. However, WWE seemed to be going forward with the Triple Threat main event as planned. With his 30-day suspension ending three days before Battleground, Reigns would be back for Batteground. However, the Big Dog is slated to miss both the Madison Square Garden live event, and the WWE Draft on the first live episode of SmackDown.

Reigns would miss all the television programs before that, but he would still be able to compete at Battleground. Despite being technically allowed to be able to wrestle at the PPV, he should be left out of the main event.

The former football player should not be rewarded with a PPV main event, days after coming back from a suspension. Doing this would shade a bad influence in the locker room, as talent will believe that they can break rules and be rewarded still.

Ambrose and Rollins will now be asked to carry the program for the next month on their own. While the two are very capable of doing this, they should be rewarded by turning this match into a one on one contest.

While being away from television for the next month, Reigns will have no way to help carry this feud. Rollins and Ambrose will be the ones week after week making Battleground a must see PPV. So why should Roman be rewarded for doing nothing?

Coming back from the suspension, Roman Reigns should be in the doghouse for at least a few months heading into the fall. There have been top stars who have been suspended before that, and spent time in the doghouse upon returning. Reigns should be no different.

Stars like Jeff Hardy and Randy Orton both lost their place among the top of the card once returning from a suspension. While the former stars both made it back to the top, they did have to serve some time in mid-card feuds. Reigns should be the same.

The only way WWE could try and get away with letting Reigns fight at Battleground is if they decide to pull the trigger and turn him heel. Roman could say he upon returning that he is above Rollins and Ambrose, and felt he was too good to have to deal with them until Battleground.

Fans would finally get what they want and Reigns would begin his heel run. However, this still doesn’t seem to work, as it again casts a belief in the locker room that you can mess up and still be rewarded.

Rollins, Ambrose, and Reigns are not leaving WWE anytime soon, and this main event can still be used at a later date. WWE could move it a month back and use it as the main event of SummerSlam, or wait until WrestleMania.

Any way you try and look at this, Roman Reigns does not deserve to remain in the main event of Battleground. Rewarding Reigns once he comes back does not make WWE look good and continues the stigma that they are obsessed with Roman Reigns.

Roman Reigns needs to be treated like anyone else who has broken the Wellness Policy in the past. Roman is young and will learn from this mistake, but allowing him to compete next month at Battleground, when he did nothing to build the match is the wrong thing to do.
