Bobby Lashley as TNA’s X-Division Champion Can Rejuvenate the Division
By Dj Beal
Why having Bobby Lashley crowned as the new TNA World and X-Division Champions doesn’t hurt the X-Division?
Many fans have felt that TNA has lost sight of what made them popular in the first place and that was the X-Division. The division focused on no limits and gave rise to the stardom of many TNA originals like AJ Styles, Christopher Daniels, and Samoa Joe. The fact that it gave an opportunity for many mid-card wrestlers to become world renown has certainly been documented. As TNA has been going through many reboots of their company, they have also brought in younger talent to keep the roster fresh.
Over the last few years, fans have proclaimed that the X-Division is not like it once was and many of them predicted that the X-Division would be no more.

In 2016, the X-Division is certainly stealing the show and once again building stars from its platform. Wrestlers that we hadn’t seen before like Trevor Lee, Andrew Everett, and DJ Z are tearing the house down with their matches together. Of course, the TNA fans want to see more Ultimate X matches but the company can’t book those matches every single week and keep people entertained. For those who disagree, look at the Hell in a Cell or TLC concepts as pay-per-views. Having these matches as a main event isn’t the issue, the problem is they happen too regularly and it takes the surprise factor out of the match. I find it more entertaining to be surprised by having an Ultimate X match at a random Impact instead of at a pay-per-view where one would expect it to be.
Getting back to the title for title match that was marketed for the July 21 edition of Impact, Bobby Lashley holding both titles doesn’t hurt the X-Division in the least.
The division has always been promoted as having no limits while recently fans have seen guys of a smaller stature win the championship like Tigre Uno and Eddie Edwards. It could be argued that it has become a glorified Cruiserweight Division but with Lashley now holding the title, it puts the emphasis back on the fact that the X-Division has no limits.

Supporters have felt that the X-Division hasn’t been featured much but now that the World Champion also holds the X-Division Championship, there is no way that any wrestling company would keep their World Champion off of television (well Brock Lesnar). Lashley holding both titles is going to give him more television time thus continuing his growth on the microphone, while allowing him to compete with smaller guys giving him versatility. Also, Lashley had one of his best matches against one of the X-Division’s best in Austin Aries as Aries cashed in option C at Destination X in 2014. With Lashley being a cross-promotional athlete, as an MMA fighter in Bellator, he certainly can draw a more casual eye to TNA’s weekly in-ring product.
When looking at Lashley as a champion throughout his career, he can be labeled as nothing less than dominate. When someone beats Lashley for a championship in TNA, they had to work harder than in any other match and this often creates shock value. What better way to bring the X-Division back to prominence than to have a dominating champion that everyone struggles to beat. Imagine when that X-Division star finally reclaims the X-Division championship from Lashley; think about how much momentum that wrestler and the X-Division will have.

Not only does Lashley give the X-Division an edge but I believe that Lashley will make the X-Division more of a focus that it ever has been.
