3 Reasons Chris Jericho Will Win at WWE WrestleMania 33
By Bryan Heaton
1. Owens Doesn’t Need the US Title
Perhaps the biggest reason for Chris Jericho winning at WrestleMania 33 is the hardware he’s got around his waist.
Back in January, Jericho defeated Roman Reigns in a handicap match to win the United States Championship. Y2J’s partner in that match? His former best friend, then-Universal Champion Kevin Owens.

By virtue of holding the Universal Title for so long, Owens should stay in the world title picture following WrestleMania. There’s several reasons for this, not least of which is his guaranteed rematch for the Universal Championship. Whether it’s Goldberg or Brock Lesnar as champ following WrestleMania, Owens should be among the first challengers.
How about another reason to keep Owens in the main event? He’s got a loose alliance with Triple H, revealed to the WWE Universe when Jericho returned to Raw following his Festival of Friendship injuries. With Owens and Triple H working in tandem – along with Samoa Joe – KO should have his eyes on a bigger prize than the US Title.
So if there’s bigger prizes in KO’s near future, what purpose would it serve for Jericho to drop the US Title to him at WrestleMania? Even with rumors that Jericho is taking time off following WrestleMania, there’s always the chance he could stick around for the post-Mania Raw. It’s always one of the year’s most exciting shows, so why not add some excitement with a US Title change?
Imagine it: Jericho has a great match against Owens at WrestleMania, winning and retaining the title. Owens firmly entrenches himself in the world title picture, while Jericho gets stuck in a match on Raw. Maybe he faces Samoa Joe, or a guy like Braun Strowman. Maybe there’s a multi-man match, and Sami Zayn or even Finn Balor get involved. One of those guys leaves Raw with a shiny new championship belt, while Y2J heads off to tour with Fozzy for a month or two.
