1. WrestleMania 17 – “My Way” by Limp Bizkit

It’s no shock that the greatest WrestleMania of all time would also be the owner of having the greatest theme song of all time. Along with Saliva, Limp Bizkit were the adopted band of the WWE during the early 2000’s.

Limp Bizkit performed live at WrestleMania 19, and also provided a bunch of their songs for the WWE to use for their events including Mania 19 and the 2003 Survivor Series. The band also lent the company their popular track Rollin to be The Undertaker’s theme during his biker days.

The band became one of the more polarizing bands in the late 90’s and early 2000’s as they were one of the pioneers of the Nu Metal moment. Along with bands such as Linkin Park, Korn and Rage Against the machine, Bizkit helped bring Nu Metal to the forefront in the late 90s and early 2000’s.

The band is fronted by Fred Durst who was a very controversial presence in the music scene having altercations and battles with the likes of Eminem, Brittany Spears and Slipknot. Despite all the controversy around the group, Limp Bizkit has sold millions of records worldwide and are still together to this day.

For the big event in April 2001, WWE looked to get a massive song to usher in the big event. WrestleMania 17 was the first Mania since 1992 that would be held in a massive arena, as 60,000 plus filled into the Houston Astrodome to see the event.

The big show was also seen by many a victory celebration as WWE a week prior had won the Monday Night War defeating WCW and purchasing their video library and bringing in a bulk of their talent to work for WWE in the coming months.

This would be the first time WWE went out and asked a major band to let them use their song for the big dance, as Jim Johnson provided WrestleMania with their theme before this. Limp Bizkit at the time was one of the biggest rock bands in the world so this was a big time thing for WWE.

The song was used as the only theme song for the event, and was featured almost weekly on WWE television as it was also used the music the company put into the vignette for the epic WWE Championship match between The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Mania 17 was seen at the last major event of the attitude era and picking an edgy and controversial band like Limp Bizkit as the source of sound for the show was an excellent idea. The lyrics talk aobut how the protagonist was going to do what they wanted and if you didn’t like it you could leave “It’s my way, my way of the highway”.

The song strongly depicts the attitudes and egos of both The Rock and Stone Cold on top of alot of the other iconic stars during the Attitude Era. While Limp Bizkit have dropped immensely in the last few years they still remain popular within the WWE community for providing their shows with awesome theme songs.
