WWE Raw: Can Seth Rollins Salvage His Road To WrestleMania?

With Jason Jordan out of action on WWE Raw, what can Seth Rollins do to ensure he has a prominent spot on the card at this year’s WrestleMania?

WWE Raw hasn’t been too kind to Seth Rollins for the most part of 2017 to be fair. It’s true that he has won the tag team gold on more than one occasion and was at the heart of the Shield reunion which were both great moments from Raw in 2017. Rollins was also alongside Reigns and Ambrose as the trio lead Raw’s retaliation during the build to Survivor Series 2017.

However, even as he was tearing the house down alongside his Shield brethren and most notably Dean Ambrose, as the tag champion, we all knew Rollins belonged elsewhere. A star of his caliber, mic skills and athleticism deserved to be in the hunt for the Universal title. The same can be said about many of the top stars on Raw presently, including Roman Reigns, Finn Balor, Braun Strowman and Samoa Joe.

Be as it may, we knew Rollins’s time would come eventually and that he would break out of the tag division. Most of us expected it to happen in the form of a feud with Dean Ambrose, before an ill-timed triceps injury took Ambrose out of action, essentially nullifying all the build up towards the Shield reunion. Confusing as it was in the beginning, Rollins was immediately paired with Jason Jordan. This might have been an ingenious plan by the upper management to get Jordan over with the fans.

To an extent, it worked too. As both of them began to work together, even with Roman Reigns in the mix. It seemed like we were on course for a WrestleMania feud between Rollins and Jordan. However, just as Rollins seemed poised to break out of the tag team scene once again, injury has struck. Jason Jordan had to undergo surgery for a neck injury that has been bothering him. The WWE has not given a word on when he will be back. So once again, Seth Rollins’s road to WrestleMania has taken a bit of a stop. Creative will now have to rethink their approach and give him something meaningful to do.

When creative had to nothing meaningful for the New Day to do at WrestleMania last year, they made them the official hosts of the night. You can’t do the same with Rollins. The Architect is too big of a star and not the ‘host’ material. He should much rather be out there tearing the house down. What can the King Slayer do to reroute his road to WrestleMania in such a short time, before he ends up in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royale?

If he is going to be stuck in the tag division, he is going to have to find a new tag team partner. Seeing as the only two superstars on the same level as Rollins is in terms of star power are Roman Reigns and Finn Balor, this seems like a distant possibility.

I discussed how creative can change their Universal title plans to make way for Reigns to be Rollins’s partner the other day. But even that seems rather far-fetched.

As for Finn Balor, the Balor Club can potentially be what the Shield reunion couldn’t. So pairing up these two men would be a mistake.

I would much rather have them feud with each other, that eventually culminates in Dean Ambrose’s return and a full-on war between the Balor Club and the Shield.

Rollins’s best option at the moment is to go after the Miz and his Inter Continental title. For once, this is one title that the Architect needs to complete his Grand Slam. The Architect has held all the other singles titles, including a reign as the WWE champion and the United States champion. Rollins has never gone after the IC title. Creative can even build a three-way feud over the title, with Finn Balor in the mix too. With the Miz, Rollins and Balor locked in a feud, creative will surely have a massive draw in time for WrestleMania.

Lastly, Rollins could always turn heel, after realizing that listening to the fans and going against the Authority did not do him any favors. Let’s be honest here. The guy hasn’t had a single shot at the Universal title after defeating Triple H did he? Moreover, what did the resident GM Kurt Angle do? Pair him up with his son Jason Jordan and relegate him to the tag division for all eternity. If I were Seth Rollins right now, I’d be furious with the lack of singles opportunities I’ve had on WWE Raw over the last six months.
