Technically, John Cena is free to go to any brand. NXT is a third brand now. The show is no longer just a developmental territory. Over the last few years, Cena has become the veteran that needs to fight off young studs. This has been a clever way to book an aging and defiant face of the company. It has given him an edge and a new dimension to his character.
There are plenty of superstars on NXT that can benefit from working with John Cena. Adam Cole, Lars Sullivan, and Velveteen Dream are some to name a few. Nevertheless, EC3 would be the perfect first opponent for Cena to put over. In an interview with Byron Saxton, EC3 teased a match with the franchise. His reply to who he wants to face was “I want to vanquish John Cena”.
A feud between these two could write itself. The cocky entitled up and comer looking to kill a legend. John Cena would provide an extra boost to the brand as a whole. EC3 will show Cena some “ruthless aggression” and try and prove that he is the top 1%.
