4. WarGames Match: The Undisputed Era vs War Raiders, Pete Dunne & Ricochet

I’m ranking this one fourth not because of any deficiency or shortcoming in the match itself, but because of the four matches on the card, this one carries perhaps the least weight in terms of stakes, both actual and emotional.

That’s not to say it’s not going to be absolutely electric, though. If last year’s match was any indication, we can expect a hell of a spectacle inside the War Games cage.

Of the eight participants, War Raiders are relatively untested – they’re still the new kids on the NXT block and this match aims to do what last year’s War Games match did for then-newcomers Undisputed Era. Filling the ‘big guy’ boots previously occupied by Authors of Pain is a big responsibility, but Hanson and Rowe show more than enough aptitude, and have an impressive pre-NXT pedigree to back up their credentials.

The aforementioned Undisputed Era are not afraid to pull off insane stunts in service of victory. Adam Cole in particular has taken some crazy bumps during his NXT tenure. Remember that chair incident in his match with Aleister Black at TakeOver: Philadelphia? I bet Adam Cole’s chiropractor does.

More from NXT

Roderick Strong is a master of delivering punishment, while Kyle O’Reilly is equally likely to (accidentally) hit himself in the face with a chair as he is to tear arms out of sockets.

Recently returned Bobby Fish is the fourth man in the Undisputed camp, and a WarGames veteran, having taken and delivered plenty of punishment in last year’s match. Together, they are a formidable force, and they’ll be more than a challenge for the motley crew assembled to take them down.

Ricochet and Pete Dunne round off the WarGames lineup, filling the two vacant spaces on the War Raiders side. Ricochet is all about the flash and the spectacle, but he’s no stranger to absorbing punishment, as he proved in the NXT North American Championship ladder match at TakeOver: New Orleans.

And Pete Dunne remains one of the most versatile wrestlers on the NXT roster. Consistently impressive, Dunne’s star has been on the rise for the last year and shows no signs of stopping. A strong showing at TakeOver: WarGames could be the icing on the cake for this obscenely talented youngster.
