I know what you’re thinking, there’s no way the most over act in the company doesn’t come out on top in the main event.
Moxley might be over, but Jericho’s ‘Le Champion’ shtick has provided AEW fans with some of the most memorable moments in professional wrestling in recent memory. What happens to their flagship TV show if the main antagonist no longer has a belt around his waist?
Yes, Moxley has had to face off against some of the baddest wrestlers on the planet in order to get his title opportunity. Allin, PAC, Cobb, and Omega to name a few. That doesn’t mean he can’t go on another undefeated run and challenge for Chris Jericho’s title in the future.
The Moxley/Jericho match clearly leaves AEW in a bit of a pickle.
Do I put the strap on this generation’s anti-hero or keep it on one of the industry’s wiliest veterans and see what sort of shenanigans he can pull off in order to set up a bigger, more violent rematch?
Look, either way AEW can’t go wrong. On one end, Jericho is looking poised to keep this title for as long as fans will sing along to ‘Judas’.
On the other, you have an established star within the North American market, a familiar face for fans making the jump from WWE, and a flatout badass.
